I have GHS Boomers on my M/M Sterling HS. I love the strings. However, the "G" string always seems to sound like a guitar string and not a bass string . the strings are a couple of months old and I have tried many, many adjustments on my amp to try to blend the sound, but no luck. any suggestions????

Slinkys.

My experience has been that Boomers work best on a bass that needs help coming "alive". They sound way too bright when you put them on a good bass.

Ray, I'm a guitar player, but do "I" have to say it too???? You'll be happy you did!! Bought my first set of "Slinkys" in 1973 on my Les Paul and yes, I've been using them ever since (not the guitar, LOL) I've NEVER changed!!

Travis is correct, GHS strings do suck......

The best bass strings are Super Slinkys ( Pink package 45-65-80-100 ) & Hybrid Slinkys ( Orange package 45-65-85-105 )

* I currently have the Hybrids on my Stingray, thanks to Andrew ( Mingus ) and the fine folks at Sweetwater

I wasnt trying to be harsh, or even fanboyish.

You see, I do like Slinkys and EB flats, but my main strings are by an *acme* brand, or the Jazz Round and Flat variety.

Ive tried GHS strings 2 or 3 times, and was just always overwhelmed by how much I hated them.

One man trash.....................

I haven't used GHS strings in a long, long time, so I can't really say much about what they're like now, but if I'm going to use rounds, they're going to be Slinkys.

I hate to beat a dead horse but, theres a reason these basses sound so good with slinkys, I mean what string do you think EBMM was using when they were perfecting the pickups and preamps? probably not GHS. I have tried just about every bass string out there, and I always keep coming back to slinkys, they just sound better.

What are the string gauges? My guess is that the G string is too light compared to the others.

(Besides, I also switched to using Super Slinky's exclusively, they just make MM basses sound great ;))

I used GHS Boomers for many years, but I stopped using them about 10 years ago.
They started to sound and feel a lot harsher than they had previously. However, (and this depends on your taste, of course) I DO like a crisp, snappy sound, and I found that DR hi-beams work for my poor old '76 Ray. And they hold their tone for a lot longer than most others. ..Sorry to be the black sheep in the cheersquad

I too love DR strings, but cannot justify the price they are asking with how often I change them. That is why I like EB strings, more bang for the buck. I personally have never liked Boomers. I do know plenty who do like them, but many of them play Ampeg which I have never liked nor owned either!

Yeah, I agree.... the retail price sucks on DR's.
But you can get them for much less (and this applies to any brand, really), if you shop online at one of those string places.
I'm paying roughly $30 Australian to have them shipped to me, and in the store they want $80 (70 if your lucky). I buy half a dozen sets or so, to make it worthwhile. Seems like a good deal to me.

If you like DR Hi-beams, try out EB's Stainless Super Slinkies. They sound similiar IMO and have just about the same tension as regular Super Slinkies (a plus in my book).
