Is this the standard Silhouette with H-S-H pickup config or a Silhouette Special with H-S-S pickup config? Either way, I would actually keep the 250K pots on and replace the tone pot with a 250K no-load pot. That way, you retain the original tone of the instument, but when you max out the tone control it effectively takes the whole tone circuit out, giving you more high end and "breathiness".

Hey Freeman,

I'm just curious, is your handle based on your family name or your first name? My dad's name is Freeman and his mother's maiden name was Freeman.

It's a fairly unique name. That's why I ask.

Do you guys think to replace the Silhouette stock 250k pots with 500k units gives me some more gain?

Should give you a slight boost in gain and high end...I have an AL and an Axis Sport with MM90s (AL=250k, Sport=500k), and I thought about upping the AL's pots before I actually got the instrument, and I actually think I really prefer the slight restraint they put on the AL's sound. However, those are single coils, so the presence boost for thicker humbuckers would probably be more a plus than a minus.

With pots being between $5-$10 a pop, it's one of the cheapest mods you can try if you're handy with a soldering gun. Don't forget if you try this to get a set of correspondingly matched capacitors too - experiment with different combinations of caps and pots and you may find yourself creating a special tone of yer own! :D

Thanks you guys so much!
Any suggestions about hot bridge pups?
For a 5 way blade pup switch like Silhouette, do I really need to put a alnico 5 magnet pup to match the neck alnico 5 magnet pup?

Freeman,

I've got a Silo on the way and I'm still undecided as to whether I should keep it stock, replace the pots, replace the pots and bridge and neck pup....or just do a 2nd pickguard w/ what I want on there (the HH) route.....I might just do that. W/ a standard silo they use Molex connectors to make guard swaps a breeze, I might just build up a non stock one and have it on hand so I can vary back and forth.

Late!
