I was just wondering how many of you guys, if any, coat the tops of your pole pieces with clear nail polish to prevent any rusting? Seems like a neat idea to keep your bass lookin fresh, and it doesnt alter tone from what I've heard. so what do you guys think?

Well......

On this forum, you sometimes never know what to take serious. Is this for real? I hate it when pups rust.

i do believe it is. i dont see why it wouldnt be. its a clear coat of sorts, the clear coat on your bass' body protects the paint. why wouldnt nail polish protect the hardware?

Just a light, light sheen of machine oil does the trick.

If anyone actually puts clear nail polish on their pole pieces, please give us a report.

well after sitting in front of my bass for an hour with the bottle in my hand i finally decided to try this out. i just put a coat on each polepiece and waited a few hours for it to dry. when i came back i nervously plugged in and found that my bass sounded great like it always did, no change at all in tone, volume, anything. Now I only hope that it prevents any rusting like I heard it would.

I wouldn't have thought there'd be any loss of sound/quality & you proved it.

And you also have rust proof poles.

:)
