Right here.

The only thing I miss about the 1001 is the raw power it had. I actually still have it but it just sits in the rack not doing much of anything. The tone of the LMII has won me over. :)

I went from a GK 400RB, to a Trace Elliot, to an Ampeg B2, to an Ampeg SVT 4 Pro, to a MarkBass CMD 102P with a MarkBass Traveler 151P underneath.

Very roundabout way to get there. But, I wouldn't trade my MarkBass for anything!

I only miss the mute switch.

Raw power? Well several times I have forgotten to hook up the 15" along with the 2x10's and never really noticed with the MKII. :p

i went from a 1001 to a LM2. no problems here. theyre different and i cant say one is better but the LM weighs 6lbs and fits in a backpack. that won me over easily... plus it does sounds great.

and my band still tells me to turn down and im nowhere near 1/2 way on the volume knob

I still have both. I have the 1001 in a combo and the LMK II. The Markbass sees more work now because of ease. I love the sound of the LMK II, but do like the overdriven sound I can get from the GK too. I plan on keeping both.

Thanks for the info guys.....I need to find some additional info on LM II or F1 use with an Acme B-2. I just can't get over the fact, that an MB 500 watt head can fit in the front pouch of my padded bass gig bag; with that on my back, I'll have both hands to carry my cab. And do it all in one trip.

Any former GK 1001RB / 700RB users, switch to Markbass LM II / F1 heads?
Likes, dislikes, miss your GK head?

Nothing is Like My Ole 1970 Ampeg SVT, But I Have for years been a GK Fan And Have Switched to MarkBass and Very Proud of the Switch, GK was good for the 80's & 90's but MarkBass has taken it to these new limits, And since we Know they'll never ever be another SVT like the old ones, Plus I do not miss that weight, lol. So Markbass is it for me in these 2000's.

For extra power you can step up in weight a whopping 2 lbs to the SD800. I got one a few weeks ago.......dayum! The same tone found on the LMII, which I kept of course, but add 50% more umph!! One needs serious crotch protection with this amp!

Have a RB2001 and a MB CMD102 (which is essentially a LMII combo) - I guess I am the oddball, but I like my GK better. It isn't a question of power, but I have the GK settings nailed. Maybe it is just that I haven't quite gotten the hand of the MB (which I do LOVE btw). I just am looking for that crystal clear sound with a serious low end thump (I have been able to get one or the other with my MB but not quite both). That being said they are both great.

I used to own a GK 800RB and then a 1001mkII. After quite a few more amps since the GK's including SWR and EA, I now own a LM II.

The GK is probably the only amp that I used to own that I would take back in a heartbeat. It is a great amp and holds good memories. The price is excellent and I loved the tone. They seem to work great with musicman basses. They seem to color the sound more than the Markbass and have their own distinct sound (which is a good thing in my opinion - very solidstate sound - I never used the overdrive).

The LMII colors the sound less but sounds great. I would call these 2 my favourite amps - I now have the LM because of the size and the fact it just pairs up brilliant with my Bergantino HT112 cabs.

I never got to try GK amp with the GK neo cabs - I am sure that rig sounds great.

A couple years ago I was a GK endorsee (used a 100RB-II/Neo212/Neo115).

In the past year Ive used a MarkBass Little Mark II and a MarkBass TA501.

Now I use an Ampeg all tube amp, and hear the sound in my head.

Go figure.

My favorite 3 amps are Ampeg GK and Markbass.

They ALL sound good, they are all different, but they all sound good. Same as Stingrays, Sterlings, and Bongos, they all sound really good, but they are all different.

It just depends on what sound you are after.
I currently own an Ampeg SVT CL with Ampeg 8X10 cab - while that 300 watt all tube head through that 810 sounds like THUNDER, it has that distinct Ampeg sound, and thats all.

Same goes with Gallien-Krueger, its hard for me to explain their sound, but its distinctive and to me, they can only get that one sound.

Now, Markbass is the only amp that I have owned that can get SEVERAL wonderful tones. With those magic knobs you can make it sound like an old tube amp ( svt ) Then you can tweak the knobs and make it sound like a modern hi-fi bass amp, the Little Mark II is VERY versitale.

I have owned a Markbass LM2, and plan to buy another one very soon. I've also owned a GK 1001RB II.

So, there's my 2 cents
