I just bought a Petrucci 7 String and aside from a small problem that is being fixed (really small problem with the nut) the guitar plays and sounds fantastic. I got Carbon Blue Pearl and even the color is great.

yes i was considering one of those. altho i've never even played the petrucci 6 so i'm not sure. and with all the "stress crack" problems and stuff i've been a little leary. i've seen some really nice neck-thru carvins, with birdseye and flame maple and stuff and they seem to go very cheap. i've always thought carvins seemed a little under rated. do you have any experiance with them? thanks dude, you may be the only other 7 string player on this board. ;-) lol

Nothing at all wrong with a Carvin, IMO. I just knew after playing several 7 Strings (Baker, Ibanez, ESP, and a Carvin) that the EB was for me.

It had the pickups I wanted, and I wanted the Piezo with a Trem. The guitar just roars. I think the stock pickups are kind of "transparent"? They sound excellent on their own but also take to effects extremely well. I also thing EB has the best Piezo system in the business...

I have a 6 String Baker, and love it-the 7 String just didn't do it for me. The Carvin would have required me changing the pickups right out of the gate, because I don't like the stock pickups. The Ibanez and ESP honestly were never in the running to me. I wanted an American Made guitar.

Stress cracks are a non issue to me...as my friend EdgarAllenPoe pointed out in another thread, when you use the type of finish that EB (among others) uses, that stress cracks are common in the neck pocket-these are finish cracks only. I honestly believe IMO that EB was doing body replacement on these as a goodwill gesture, not because it actually needed it. And I think It was less work to just replace the body, because rather than strip an entire guitar down to bare wood, they just start out with a new body from the word go. Again, whether this is actually the case, I don't know, but it makes sense to me.

One last reason I went with the EB is the neck-I really think it was the nicest neck out of all the 7 Stringer's I tried out.

Of course, when all is said and done , YMMV--you gotta get what feels good to you-the EB had everything I was looking for.

i had a killer ibanez rg7620 that was japan made and i loved it. had a nice thin/wide neck. the stock blaze pickups were junk, but really what guitars original pickups other than the EB's aren't junk. i had EMG's put into my ibanez prestige which i'm currently selling on ebay. here are some pics of that if you want to see how it looks. i got more pics if anyone wants to see them email me.

I would definitely recommend a EBMM JPM 7-string. I almost gave in a few weeks ago to purchase a fully-loaded one in the redburst finish after playing one. I have an Ibanez RG1077XL that has a baritone style neck. It took some time getting used to neck as big as the one on the 1077. The EBMM JPM felt just as natural to me if not more, and that was the first time I ever played one. So if you don't want one with a neck that is long enough to practically block a road in your hometown and is high quality, definitely go for the EBMM JPM

Ibanez 7 String necks are 27 inch scale? That's news to me-unless you detune everything that's gotta be some serious tension on that.

The EB is 25.5 scale.

The 27" scale neck helps tighten the sound of notes on the lower E and B strings, from what I have noticed. I wish it was an EBMM JPM 7-string. Hmmm...maybe a trade might be considered.:D

i had a ibanez rg7620 which i really liked. it had 27 inch neck scale, and was setup with 11-60's played and sounded awesome. i know ibanez makes that "mike mushok" signature baritone 6 string, it has a neck thru 28 inch scale. that would be a bit much i'm thinking.

sad day it was yesterday, i went to 3 local music shops looking for any used 7's or even new ones. they all told me they don't have nor will they get any of those. there just isn't a market for them and no one seems to want them anymore. they're like "last year we could have helped you out with that when everyone wanted them" i responded with.... "well i guess i'm the only one looking to actually play one rather than just stand there with it strapped down to my knees"

wow thats a sweet looking axe man. i'd love to try one of those. i'm located in wisconsin. i might have just set up a good deal on a mint 98 ibanez rg7620 japan made ofcourse. i wanted a string thru body but it has the edge trem atleast. i can always block it. speaking of ibanez anyone check out that new zero resistance tremelo system? i did its cool as hell! i have always hated floyd rose bridges too. lol

Do you know of way of telling if the cracks are just in the finish or if they go down to the wood of guitar's body? It would be very helpful to know this. :)

I have a Black Sparkle JPM 7, almost a year old now.

Not a stress crack in sight, sounds FAT.

I have yet to come across a production 7 that even comes close.
