I kinda got inspired my reading through the Jazz III threads and wanted to throw this out there...Has anyone had the chance to play with any of the new wheatware bio-degradeable picks yet?
One of my friends gave me a sample pack of their picks in all the different thicknesses. My initial response was that I hated them and felt they were a gimick . Granted, there's something about them that has a distinctly different attack feel; to the touch they feel smooth, but when you hit the string with them you can tell they definatly aren't plastic (i think this must be due to the fact they must be slightly porous since they are organic).
I have been spending alot of time playing with them, because I don't want to be dismissive of a possible good idea just because of my initial perception of them. I'll have to say, I'm becoming a supporter. They actually sound better! (to me at least), I've spent so long just sitting there plucking a single note with regular picks and then these...to my ear they actually NOTICEABLY sound alot warmer and round.
I was also worried that after an hour or so of playing they would fall apart either from the friction of strings or sweat from my hands..Again I thought wrong, so far after about a week of using them, they exhibit the same wear characteristics of my "go-to" green tortex's.
So at this point to me it's a trade off...A non-traditional feel (i.e. plastic, tortex, etc) for a warmer, rounder sound. It does take a little getting use to the feel of them against the strings, but so far I'm really digging it!
Anyone else try these...What's your thoughts?
