Why doesn't EBMM offer gold hardware??

As some of you know, I my son is waiting for his white Luke with matching headstock and to be honest, he would love to have gold hardware on this one.

As far as I understand there has been some limited editions with gold hardware.
Could this be a option in the future?

Gold hardware looks gorgeous when it's hanging on the wall, but in my experience it doesn't last long. Check out photos of used Gibsons. The plating on the pickups of my 335 started coming off inside a month. Chrome & nickel are more suitable if the guitar is going to be used

Gold has a tendency to flake off or turn greenish blue after a while (usually a couple of years).

A totally agree. My old Aria looks terrible after many 100's of gigs, with its tacky not so gold any more hardware.

Most of the gold plating has gone from my Les Paul - but it is part of it's reliced history now. It was never a guitar to be kept under the bed and it has many battle scars.

I bet EB will have done much to check the quality of their gold plating and one day I look forward to having an EB with Gold plated fittings.

Spudmurphy. As much as I love EBMM and their stuff. It's top quality, but gold hardware will always do that. Some just takes longer, but in the end it all wares off or discolors. That's probably why the EBMMs that have it are limited editions.

Some like gold hardware, some don't. Just like everything else.

I suspect the gold gets corroded by oxydation (sp?) and oil from fingers etc.. I clean/polish mine with guitar polish ... I'm wondering if a coating of something like shellac would keep the hardware nicer, longer. I've heard of doing that to protect other metals, like brass for example.

Back in the 80's when guys were having their nuts changed for brass ones
and brass bridges, plates and the like it was the done thing to spray the brass with lacquer in the hope of keeping away the dreaded oxidation. It didn't really work that well.
My Tele still has the brass plate and it's GREEN!
However, I'll keep it as it is, or switch it out for a chrome one, one day - it's all part of it's history after all.
