I like Flea, and I have played many of his lines over the years. But Flea's lines are really predictable. Mark King blows me away because he can just rip out one cool riff after another, and tie them together effortlessly (much variation) -- his technique is pretty good too :) I shouldn't have said Flea can't groove, but I actually think his finger-style lines are much better than his slapped lines which include too much octave popping (now that will break a groove). Flea kills on "If you want me to stay."

Since when did "wank" become "groove"?

Hey, if you got it, flaunt it! No one ever called Ali or Picasso a "wanker." Both Flea and Mark King were/are able to make the bass the central/focal instrument in pop bands. That is amazing!

Btw, MK recorded several albums with a SR4, something I don't believe Flea ever did.

Yes he does but I still love the "Thumping and Plucking Super Chopper Bass Technique" of Larry Graham on that song as well. As to all of the comments, I posted this clip to show some good Stingray footage not to have everyone critique
Flea's bass technique or compare him to Mark King. For every great bass player out there there is someone who is better, so it's really pointless to argue.Let's bring back the love people.........

I'm inclined to agree that Fleas fingered parts are nicer (Soul to Squeeze anyone?), but heck, gimme half the ability of either guy and I'd be a groove-o-wank-o-saurus!
