Hey folks,

Anyone know a good guitar tech in the New York/Northern New Jersey area (I'm in Fort Lee, NJ)?

One guy that sounds interesting is Evan Gluck who will do a setup and teach you how to do it at the same time. Anyone have any experience with him?

Thanks,

No. EB does not allow anyone else to work on their guitars. You'll need to send it to them for any work done.

You can always press your luck and send it to Evan Gluck, anyway. But I wouldn't. Do you realize his name also spells Navel Guck? Serioulsly, do you really want to send your guitar to guy who's name can spell Navel Guck? I know I wouldn't!

SS, I used John Frondelli at DBM Pro Audio ( I think they're around 37th street - 212-629-0326) in the past. Nice work, but pretty expensive. Now I just bring my guitars to my local shop, Musicians Workshop in Manalapan (732-972-1118) - great guys, cheap setups and they have a great guitar selection.

It's a 14 year old guitar, so that no longer applies, right?

On the plus side, it also spells Vulcan Keg, which, y'know...I've heard the Vulcans make good beer, so...

Not true - where did you get this idea? There is only one authorized EB REPAIR tech in the world (Jonguitarz), but setups are not repair work - they are maintenance. You can do them yourself, or take them to any tech you trust!

Heck - the folks on this forum are the ones who inspired me to learn how to do my own setups!

Lou Piero of Piero's Music on Broadway in Bayonne is really good too. Been using him since 89' for probably over 10 different guitars. He's even put together a custom job after I brought him all the pieces. As far as pricing goes....simply amazing. He just split the humbuckers on my axis, installed switchs... all for I think it was $30.00. Setups are like 10.00 or 15.00. I think that's extremely reasonable. He knows his sh*t and is into vintage stuff. Very good guy!

Mike is right...Having someone do a setup will not void your warranty. Try and find someone who will show you what he does so you can learn. it's easy, and you can set it up to how it feels for you. Not some guy who doesn't play it every day

Hey, good to know. I thought he worked for EB.

Yes, I do my own setups, and so should everyone else. I though the reason for this thread was trying to find a repair tech in the NJ area for samplesize. I had no idea he was looking for somebody who can help him with a simple guitar setup. His post was a little confusing to me.

Ah, I see. Sorry if my response seemed a bit harsh - no offense was intended.

Thanks for the advice, folks.

I did end up going to Evan Gluck for a setup/tutorial. He was great. Very meticulous and skilled and a good teacher -- demystified the process. I'll do simple adjustments myself in the future.

I like him so much, I'm gonna give y'all the link:
