Hey guys, how're you fine people doin'?

I was wondering if maybe you could help me?

I'm having some trem difficulty with my EBMM Petrucci. It seems when i move the trem up or down, there's a slight ringing sound involved.

it sounds almost like the trem is shifting on a trem post, making it rub around and make that ringing chime sound.

is there any way to alleviate this?

i'm kind of in a bind, as i don't think there is a very good luthier around where i live...so any wonderful help would be mass appreciated!

thanks very much!!!

Is this audible unplugged while not playing anything? If so, it could be the springs that are causing that "chiming" sound. This is not uncommon.

What I do is stuff a small bit of toilet tissue into noisy springs using a small Allen wrench. This lets the springs work as normal, but deadens the vibration and kills the chime.

I am only asumming that this is what you're hearing based on your post. Could you elaborate more?

hey there all!

i don't think its the springs. I used to do the tissue thing after seeing Vai's EVO, and there was still that chimey grinding sound.

it only happens when i push or pull on the trem a little bit, or i bend a string, i can hear it. it sounds like the trem is rubbing against the post, because when i move it up or down against the post, it'll make the same sound.

does that make sense?

its jst really strange. i'd love to be able to use the trem again (currently i have it blocked, to try to prevent the noise).

Applying a lubricant between the knife edge of the tremolo and the posts might help. I have seen EB recommend 3 in 1 oil, I have used graphite and remington teflon spray (available in the sporting good section at a large retail store) both with very positive results. I need to do this to my axis.

Yeah check that nut. Sometimes the ring sounds like it's coming from the bridge but
it's not.

Is it a new Petrucci? New strings?
