2nd one. Only this one is in working condition and LEFTY!!!

It came in a case (not ernie ball) and it smell of some scent. Perfumed of some sort, but annoying like mold or mothballs (not mold).

Can anyone recommend something to get the smell better? Other than a new case, I thought of that one.

Cedar Chips?

And how do you de-smell a guitar?

Thanks!

Go get yourself a bottle of Fabreeze.
Take the guitar out and spray the hell out of the liner, and let it sit overnight.
It will kill the smell and won't hurt the case.

You didn't happen to buy that from Royal Music in New York did you? I bought an Axis SS from them last summer and as soon I opened the case there was this... smell... I really couldn't describe it, but it wasn't real pleasant.

I ended up doing the Febreeze thing as well as refinishing the neck hoping I would get that just opened smell like my Petrucci had from the factory. It took a while, but it did eventually go away.

I did that one with a case for a Thinline ele and the smell came out, but it would leave this film on the guitar. you could rub it off, but it would not go away. I left the case open to dry for a week. Be careful...

I sprayed Febreeze in it and left it outside in the cold for a few days.

Now I can smell the pleasant Febreeze odor AND the old odor, but not as much.
But still not good.

I wonder. It's a felt-like fake material over styrofoam.

Maybe I can wash it with soap and water, rinse it off, blow dry it, and then stick the silicone bag that came with my new Musicman case to dry it completely.

Or will that create mold?

I don't think thats a good idea. Try putting a couple of those dryer sheet things in the case and close it up for a day or 2.
