Got to spend time on a Bongo 4HH for the first time today!

Wow!

Only the 2nd Bongo I have ever held actually. (rare up here) Aside from the expected awesome build quality and finish...and a super comfy neck, I was most taken by the depth of the tone....it was so thick and ... I can't quite articulate it....round with out any unwanted girth, smooth but present, cutting but not sharp....I don't know...how about good! ..... I loved that it was so nice with the EQ set flat that I could picture settling in a home tone very near flat and just adjusting a nudge here or there for the room or a tune or two (maybe even using the blend for some of that tune to tune small adjustments?)

Heading back tomorrow before work to try it again....I think I may need to snag it, assuming it is still there.

I tend to play flats - Group IIs these days - I am sure I have seen positive comments on the flats + bongo combo..or does it thieve it off its Bongo-ness?

so what can't a Bongo HH do? There are more tones in here than I would ever need...and the sensitivity to touch - I have long thought that (to my ears anyways) the MM PU is most 'reactive' or responsive to hand position and attack technique...and this Bongo does that but moreso....

it is absurd how comfy this bass is. I had always thought a ray was the right fit for my hands, body - this is almost like my Rays hotter, fitter younger cousin.....who does naughty things her older cousin has never even heard off!

Amazing, ain't it?

Try rolling off the treble and plucking way up the neck with the pads of your fingers for some really thumpy upright-ish sounds. Perfect for old ballads.

Yes they certainly are "responsive" to say the least. Lately I've been experimenting with mine. 100% bridge pickup, low mids dimed! Talk about honk and cutting through! My Bongo is doing the Ray thing better than my Ray?

I have never held a 'better' bass if such a thing exists - certainly personal desires/preferences or whatever vary from person to person (and really for a person through different phases of their playing) but in terms of build, comfort, one-ness of the bass, I doubt anyone could do 'better'.
