hi all, I'm getting ready to hopefully order a graphite pearl bongo HH with abalone or Black ic pg from my bass gear dealer. I was wandering if it's less of a fingerprint magnet than the black or sapphire black colors, plus I want to know opinions on which PG would look better. :p

p.s. those that were here last year know it's takin me forever to save up for this, I'm so happy. I hope I don't have to spend the money on something else. (happened 3 times)

Personally, I think you should go with whichever colour LOOKS best, and suffer the extra polishing :)

BTW - I know all about the cash thing. I was all lined up waiting to get something arranged via Bovinehost and my house turned into a money pit.

The double dilemmea for when I do have the funds is whether to still go for the bongo or a HH Ray.

Damn you EBMM!, damn you! :D

I was originally going for stealth but decided against the none more black since it doesn't really match my personality. the graphite pearl seems to be only a shade or two lighter than he sapphire black and match's my style better, not ultra dark but not bright either, in the middle. plus it will look different compared to my guitarists SG and drummers kit.

now all I need is a PG choice. :(

Here are both of my fingerprint magnets

They only get fingerprints on em if you touch them though.

Don't mind me. I need sleep.

Joe if you wore underpants, you'd get less marks on the bass. ;)

I am a big fan of the grayish finishes (Graphite Pearl and Egyptian Smoke, which I believe Steve Barr calls "Saudi Arabian Haze") but the Sapphire Black is not a fingerprint magnet at all.

+1 - No issues with fingerprints here... :)

I considered both Sapphire Black and Graphite Pearl for my Sterling - very nice, understated beauty.

Yowza--that's one fine looking instrument. I really like the moonstone on the 5 string pickguard.

I will say that bass gets me more attention than it should. It also has taught me to play.

I fight finger prints on the tuners. Other than that it stays clean.

I will try and take some new pics of my SR5 so it will show that it looks the same after over a year of gigging.

That is a good color and the Bongo's look just as good with that combo as the SR5 does IMHO.

Are you sure that's graphite? It looks an awful lot like my egyptian smoke SR5. It also looks lighter in color than those two bongos above.

The 5 string just came out of the box. Not sure I even played it yet. It's got pleny of sweat and grease on it now, a few weeks later. What does one treat a fretboard with anyhow? I've been just cleaning my necks with guitar polish lately.

Also - now that I'm awake, I don't think either of those finishes attract fingerprints. Not any more than any other bass I've ever owned. I would also think that on a solid finish fingerprints would be much more visable. Now what I DO think ya oughta be concerned about if fingerprints urk you is your choice of pickguards. Note example B below.

I use boiled linseed oil on my fingerboards and would not recommend using guitar polish.

Yeah when I bought it the dealer was calling it Egyptian smoke and moonstone.

I emailed EB and came back as graphite pearl and moonstone.

I have posted the serial number many times here.

Maybe I need another check, but since I have seen Egyptian smoke I say graphite pearl.

I say the guys that sold it to me are full of..............

It is Graphite Pearl and has a moonstone pick guard. It is one hell of a good bass. Made me a better player than I was when I was playing my Fender.

Guess I better shut up now cuz I don't know how to explain it better.

The pickguard on the 5 string is moonstone. It looks more bluish than yours. The body on my 4 is graphite pearl. According to the EB color chart your's looks almost Luke Blue to me. Is it sparkly? It doesn't look it in the pic. The pic of mine is pretty acurate to it's true looks.

It is a grey metallic and I think it is the big moonstone pg that is throwing you off. It is lighter in the picture than it really is. I took some new pics but I guess I am much better at playing my bass than I am picture taking.

It is a Graphite Pearl SR5 with a Moonstone pg. I heard it from EB.

Question all ya want to, but guess what? this bass is a woman magnet. Maybe if I am lucky it is a one off bass. Too bad I am old and married. I could well.......................

never mind

Wow tk - that's a georgeous pg - the avatar shot does not do it justice.

I'm thinking I may have to give the moonstone a try on my Sterling!
