Nice Bass mate :)

Did you actually try one out in the UK at any point prior to purchasing?

I would really love a sterling 5 H but have never seen one for sale in old blighty, so have never been able to try one :-(

How does it compare soundwise and neck wise to your Stingray 5 HS?

Thanks! I kinda just had to order blind...the first one had shipping issues, so I had to wait whilst they made another (although I was put to the front of the queue).

My Stingray 5 HS is just SO good, I had to have the 'pre 2008' version of the Ray 5, which is of course ceramic (not all though I dont think). It just so happens that I also love the Sterling neck sculpt, pickguard, and plateless controls.

Id say weightwise they are probably the same, im guessing the Sterling 5 HS is lighter though, (although my Ray 5 HS is very light for a Ray 5).

The Ray 5 HS looks much bigger, but the actual necks are almost identical I believe.

As the Sterling has just come from the factory it is a nicer setup, but the Ray is still very comfy.

Sound wise, the Sterling snarls a little bit more. Very crisp in the mids, seems to be slightly 'louder' due to this.

What I will say is that the Sterling can go from modern crisp sheen to Jaco-esque single bridge pickup burp just by using the EQ.

I personally dont boost treble very often, normally cut and add mids. I really like a punchy low mid vintage tone and EBMMs can nail that.

The Sterling 5 is VERY rare in the UK. Strings & Things have some in you can try out, so thats an option.
