I have a Musicman Stingray 4 all electronics are stock. I have owned this for about 6 years. The number on the bridge is D 07650. I guess this is the serial #? Anyway, it has been fine for the longest time and all has worked great. Just lately, I have noticed that the cabinet is sending out buzzing noises when the power is on. They get stronger when I have the treble up on the EQ. As I lower the treble below the mid range, the unit quiets down. This is happening without any peddles or tuners connected. Straight from the guitar to the amp. I have swapped amps, cords, and even had it plugged into other outlets in different locations. What I mean by this is that I have had it here at home when it happens and I have had it out at a show and it does it there, too! As I touch anything metal on the guitar, the noise goes away, just about down to no noise at all. This happens when I touch the strings, tuners, bridge etc......
Also, when I touch and move the pots on the EQ, there is a cracking once in a while when this high pitched hum is present. I am not much of an electronics guru, but I know that basics. My body is definitely the last ground to the unit and this is what is quieting the noise. I had a guitar tech look at this here locally in the Tampa Bay area and he tells me that it is ok. I beg to differ, because it is my unit and I know that it did not do this till just lately. Other than the noise mentioned above, the guitar sounds great. I have put brand new batteries in it and tried that route. Still nothing has seemed to cancel this sound. Can you please give me a checklist with some type of schematic or maybe even tell me where the problem may be. Thank you!

That to me sounds lke there's a grounding wire loose. Take the control plate off and there should be a little wire coming from the bridge into the control cavity, is it broken or has the connection come loose? if so solder it back onto the back of one of the pots and that should be it.

Dont be alarmed..that high pitch treble sound just means you can hear the guitar player...just turn it up and everything will be ok man :p:D

on a real note unscrew your imput jack and see if your ground is good there too also make sure that years of jackin in hasnt spread the contacts in the jack..and the bridge ground is a good idea too.

... and tell that guitar tech to back off the shrooms. some of us prefer not to hear crap when we play

I've got an '07' built StingRay4 H and I'm the 1st retail owner of it and it does the same thing - when u boost treb or mids there's a hum and as soon as u touch anything metal on the guitar it goes away. This only happens when i've got sweaty palms though I'm not completely sure but parhaps its got something to do with moisture around the pickup, maybe, the same thing used to happen on other basses i've played, it is annoying at times esp when trying to record a bass track just gotta keep ur fingers on the strings so it doesn't hum.

Here's a tip, if there's a hum that goes away when you touch something metal that ISN'T the bridge, strings or tuners, but IS a pickup pole, jack plate/jack plug in the jack plate, control plate or knob, i don't care what any luthier says, it's a grounding issue.

Amp---- check your amp---dont forget its a follow- thru-check your amp man - are you playing thru a power conitioner ?--anyway ---its sometimes a follow thru deal --bad ground or -if plugged into dirty power -i mean low and or drained voltage -neurtral reversed -lack of ground or all3-my point -did this happen playing in different place than usual ? meaning did you plug into a different place than usual
