I’m back here after quite a break from using my Stingray 4, sorry dudes. I had a change of band and I switched to my bass with a big ‘f’ on a bit of tin on the front. I often switch bass when I switch bands with a different genre. I went from 3 piece power blues/rock trio to jazz fusion. I tried the MM for a few rehearsals but I just kept slipping into bluesy/rocky rifs.Anyhow……

That was about a year ago and I dusted of the ol’ Stingray 4 the other day and just fell in love with it again :). I’ve now exorcised the rock within and some good jazzy fusiony stuff was flowing. The thing is I want to put on some flat strings. I checked out here and the flavour of the day seems to be the EB group III flats, they sound like they will be perfect for my needs.

Here in the UK the EB Slinkys and easy to get and cost about 14UKP a set (about 22 USD) not bad at all, BUT the only place that I have found the group III flats were at the importers, Strings & Things at 42.95 UKP a set ( about 70 USD!!!) . Is there another outlet in the UK at a more afordable price?

I would love to try a set but at that price it’s an expensive experiment. Thanks, Bob

Cheers Mark, just before you posted that link I ordered a set from MB Music here in the UK. They were also a touch cheaper than the ebay ones. Thanks for the help though.

I may well be joining the flat throng when they arive. I had some Chromes on a SR4 about four years ago and thought they were OK but ended up going back to rounds, but now I'm actively wanting flats for a thumpier/jazzier sound.
