I am in the middle of working out a deal on a fabulous used Stingray at GC. Problem is, it just came in and is subject to the 30 day hold. After I left last night I had the horrible thought that someone else may snatch it from me. Does anyone know if you can put a deposit down on one of these "held" instruments to claim it?

They can waive the pawn shop hold if the person that traded it in originally bought it from Guitar Center. It might be worth asking, they have done that for me before.

I already have it set aside. Now I just have to go give 'em the lay-away money. I doubt it this was bought at Guitar Center, it's a 1983 as best as I can tell. Hey you know, that's a good question - when did GC begin the current relationship with MusicMan/EB. Was it in 1984 when EB took over?

Zuma,
If it really is an 83, then the easiest way to tell is if the body has no fore arm or belly cut contours, it would be a preEB.

If it has contours then it's an EB.

This is what I know - trans red w clear pg. Top load bridge with the "skewed" string loading. 4-bolt neck. B02xx... serial. I didn't notice the contoured body or not. VERY beat up - this bass has been well loved to say the least. 2-band EQ of course. The neck and sound are simply amazing. Between this and my Bongo I think I have a lot covered.

Here she is!

This bass will be in my possession in early October:

It definitely has no contours.

I'm telling you guys and gals, this neck is awesome. I played it 'till the-girlfriend-said-let's-go-already. She was great about it actually but we did have to go.

So now they put it "in the back" until it's all clear. Yeeehaw! I'm definitely a 2-band fan!

Oh damn, I hadn't noticed that one in the For Sale thread. That one is in slightly better shape and comes with a case but I can comfortably say I did receive a WAY better deal than that. SCORE!

To think that I went to GC in the first place to pick up the SB14. Sorry BP, you know you'll get me again when it's time for my single H Bongo! :p

Unrelated - some jackass swapped all the batteries out of every single MusicMan bass on the hanging bottom tier. The downside of easy access battery compartments ay?! The SB14 wouldn't utter a single tone and the others were very weak. I did alert my salesman to it. Talk about tough economic times!
