hey tim no offense taken you made very good points and I agree from the pro audio standpoint especially in the seconday market stores. I used Uncle Marty's friendly discount in Spokane to set up a little garage band studio and the pickins were slim.
Believe me these guys know what they are doing and this privatization is the best thing for them. I dont know how you could open that many stores and be profitable and they did it.
Thanks, BP . . . I think going private is looking better and better these days . . .
I've been upgrading my PA, and looking for some decent tri-ampable trap cabinets and an 8 buss FOH mixer. Even in the stores that claim to be pro-audio centric, nada . . . I found a Mackie 8 buss in a Houston store, and it was only there 'cuz they ordered it, and the customer apparently didn't take it. Soundcraft? Allen & Heath? Crest? They look at you like you are from the moon if you ask for anything over a basic four buss in that stuff . . . And don't get me started about the limited selection in monitor wedges . . . I'm looking to add a couple of those, and GC seems to be mid to low end JBL, or Fred's brand . . . .
Fortunately, we have a good true pro-audio store in town, but it would be nice to see GC leverage their buying power on this higher end stuff, WITHOUT making you order it just to try it out . . . . kinda hard to compare 4 consoles that are 6k or so that way . . . I realize that they have decided to do the public company "maximize profits" trick, and with any luck, going private, and getting all the asshats off their backs about $ $ $, they will be able to widen their product selection. Yeah, always gotta be profitable, but if it is a case of 40 customers at $40 profit each, or 60 at $38, well, taking on a few less profitable items to expand customer base isn't really a bad idea either . . . but hey, here I am preaching to the choir! You obviously know this stuff, or EBMM would not be doing as well as it is! Sorry, BP, for (in all probability) pointing out the totally obvious . . .
