I just recently did a check on all the 4 electrics I currently have in the house. Two are Ibanez with different types of thin Wizard necks, one is a PRS with their Standard neck carve, and my beloved Axis, of course.

The difference in shape is truly impressive and obvious - but they are all comfy to me, in their own way. The Axis is the "beefiest" neck, but I can play as fast or precise as on the others. Key is that all the guitars have different sound characteristics that I love.

That doesn't mean that all necks are comfy to me. The guitars listed above are the top so far in playing comfort, for all kinds of different reasons. None is necessarily better or worse than others, they all have their own "vibe". There are some weird neck shapes out there that I can't adapt to, though, like the 50's LP neck or some Strats.

Also with time, I also found it makes me a way better and more creative player having different guitars with different kinds of necks. I think currently that a JP would push my creativity even further...;).

See this is interesting, because I usually prefer very deep neck profiles. One of my favorite neck shapes ever is the '59 carve on my Gibby CS ES-339. Not quite like the '58 baseball bat but definitely a serious neck.

I am not a classically-disciplined player and tend to bring my thumb over the top a lot, so I like a neck that fills my palm and provides easy leverage. Super-thin necks like Ibby Wizards, Jacksons, etc. make my hands cramp.

But - even though EB necks are thinner than most Gibsons, I find them extremely comfortable. I feel nimble when playing them and can play for a long time without any discomfort.

Not sure how or why that is, but I appreciate it. :)

Some months ago I picked up a friend's Steve Vai Ibanez and the neck was simply unplayable :)

They are just incredibly comfortable. I feel the same way when I pick up something else. Usually all the other guitars seem to have wider and fatter necks. I just got really used to the Silo and LUKE profiles...currently I cant stop playing the LUKE. I did try a Suhr the other day and it felt strange at first but was much better than majority of the other guitars out there. I still prefer the Silo and LUKE necks to anything at this point.

I have a Luke and a JP and the necks are very different, but I love them both. The Wolfgang neck is very thick and beefy and I like the way it feels, and then I have a couple of Ibazez necks that I don't have any problems with. They all feel very different and that is what I like about them.
