since i'm considering installing a emg 707 in my 7 string, the pickup hole would have to be routed a tad to fit the pickup in. i could install it myself but i can't do the routing. you guys think a pro carpenter would do as good of a job at routing the edges as a guitar tech would? i'm a little leary but unless i get it done, no emg for me....

A good luthier is my recommendation - he should even have a template he can use when doing the route, though any time you route a soft wood like Basswood after it's been finished you risk chipping the finish a touch, but an experienced guitar guy should be able to handle it... Don't be afraid to ask a potential guitar tech what experience he's had doing work like this in the past and if he has any examples. I would never hand my guitar to a carpenter to cut up - he may be a master wood cutter, but what does he know about guitars?

thats what i was thinking too. i heard you only have to take off a 1/8 of a inch on each side. mainly just squaring off the edges. i don't know i guess i'm a little leary. life is so hard.
