what was that, a solo contest? where was it located?

I take it you were taking to me, they are just local things, they are run every now and then, it's just a flogfest, haven't been to one in about 3 years, unlike most of the guys there, l'm too busy with bands to worry about **** like that.

But the guitarists there consist of,

1. Ibanez guitar.
2. Mullet.
3. Listen to their Malmstein cd's too much and think they are Malmstein.

The problem is l couldn't see any of these guys playing in any band. :p

They are great to go have a laugh though, one dude actally got up on stage with a cheese grater and literally start shredding his guitar, threw it on the ground and started kicking it.

But just trying to go up to the bar without some Vai wannabe trying to show you their chops was a pain in the ass. They normally got the rply "Save it for the judges flogger". hehe

ya, as far as i understand, it goes like this:

you go to guitar center
they have a handful of amps
they have 3 judges
they have 18 "backing tracks"
you play over one ...
then you get 2 minutes or so to do whatever you want
you get points
most points = winner
winner -> regional -> yada -> yada -> win stuff

check out guitarcenter.com for a better explanation but its somethign like that

Atleast half of the players were using ibanez of course, its like that every year!!! Personally I hate ibanez, im growing to hate bc rich and jackson too, which are all companies that i've used guitars from in the past, but man they all have problems so often and the electronics are total crap. I'm thinkin about selling some of my guitars of the jackson and bc rich variety so I can get another EB, I also found out that my guitar center stopped ordering all music man stuff, all they got is olp now, wtf!!!!!

Yeah, my local guitar store stopped stocking Ernie Ball guitars, although there are some SUB's, and they have an Petrucci and Benji model still sitting there, the Petrucci has been sittting there for like 2 years.

Ibanez, BC Rich and Jackson, typical metal guitars, we don't get too many BC Richies in my area. I don't like Ibanez either, they are in every guitar shop l go into, and it's the same cheap crap.

a manager-type at guitar center in san jose told me the only reason they have ANY EB guitars is b/c they sell a decent # of EB basses and figure it would be "bad" to not stock guitars. with that said though, they only had a couple SUBs and thats it

Jon,

For what it's worth, the new GC that just opened in Pittsburgh, PA in February had a few basses (Stingrays and Bongo), and a single SUB1 HH guitar. Only one EBMM guitar! To add insult to injury, they *did* have an OLP Petrucci!!!

The other, older GC in this area (in Monroeville, PA) had a single Axis the last time I was there. I don't know how many Music Man basses, but just that one Axis, and maybe a SUB1. That's it!

When I asked a salesman at the new store if they had any Music Man guitars, he told me they didn't carry them... just the basses. Then I pointed to the SUB1 on the wall and told him that it was a Music Man.

I am going to get together with Scott tomorrow, and get his input on this. For a GC to say they don't carry our stuff, well it's wrong! Stay tuned.

Just as information, it's a similar situation at the GC on 14th St. in Manhattan. Last time I was there (about a month ago) there were a variety of basses, several Sub 1 guitars and a single Axis. They had recently sold the one Pet, one Luke and one Silo which had all been there a while (Silo was an NOS sparkle color). When I asked about new EBMM inventory coming in, the salesman said they weren't expecting any of the higher end models. I didn't go up the ladder to a manager, but he seemed fairly definite when I inquired.
