Hi, all - it's been a while since I've checked in here.

I recently oiled and waxed the neck of my Morse for the first time, and have been enjoying the fresh feel of the neck since. However, I wasn't as careful as I should have been and spilled some Gunstock Oil on the body of my guitar.

It seems to have stained the finish in a few spots near the neck and created an air pocket between the glossy polysester finish and the wood in an area around the spots. Has anyone else had this experience? I'm a little freaked out by it, but I am happy it's not in a more visible area.

I'm surprised to hear that Tru-Oil would penetrate or effect the poly finish, other than making it tacky until cleaned off. Air pocket? I have no idea what's going on there.

Yup its strange that oil product can do that.

Anyway I can offer some advice here.

I was actually cleaning away all the lemon oil on my other guitar's maple neck. I was not careful and spilled some acetone which I was using on the glossy surface. Small flakings appeared and I tought that was the end of it. What I did do was to use polishing wax and keep polishing the area with cotton cloth in a one way, straight moving direction. The flakings, or bubbles/pockets you may wanna call, disappered. I think polishing and pressing against the glossy surface help to flaten your poly surface, since its not really that hard (look at all those relic guitars - the poly do thin down over time..)

Do it slowly and polish well. Hope it helps dude!:D

I've seen Gunstock oil leave a small residue, which in my case meant that it was on top of the poly coating. I really don't bleeb that the oil will interact with the poly finish and cause it to bubble up. Without seeing it I would guess that it is infact a reside that has gone hard with a bubble in it. It will come off with some "t cut" and followed up with a bit of polish.

Thanks for all the input, guys - I feel a lot better about the situation now. I'm still not positive whether it's on top of under the poly finish, but I think i'm going to leave it alone at the moment since it doesn't seem to be changing. This may be even less feasible - but could it have been a result of a gunstock wax drip? It could have been wax, as I didn't notice anything until I was finished with the whole oil/wax process.

tommy, thanks for the offer! I'm actually in Boston until late December, but when I live in Maryland I'm in PG County. I may have somebody up here who can take a look at it eventually, and I'll see if I can get a picture of it this weekend. The neck does feel pretty amazing with the new coat of oil and wax in any case!
