the HH is a little more "ballsy" while the SH has some more of the "jazz" - polished flavor. IMO the SH sounded a little noisier (but that could have been several other things too). The SH is quite killer... in fact, I think from a sonic standpoint it is a little more versitle than the HH. The HH is more in your face. Now the single H... Since I had a chance to play a show with Kermit (H) and the new B5(HH) I noticed some definate differences. First the single H, even with just a 3 band really cuts through even more so than the HH. Not quite as bassy as the HH but I love the tone. THe HH was deep... really deep and the 4 band opened up some unique tones. The Bongo H is one of the BEST single pup basses I've played... period (and that is a lot of bass - though I'm not the bass slut Jack is 
). Each one is just a different experience. My advice... get one of each!!!!

Dargin, why do you like the single H compared to double, and what kind of music do you play on it?

I can't speak for Dargin but there is something to the feel of the single H. Yeah you don't have the 4 band but it sounds good without it. IT doesn't feel as crowded and just has a good vibe to it (btw, I play a bit of everything with it).Bassplyr said:

The single humbucker has that same fat humbucking sound of a Stingray....except more punch and boom. When I say this I am referring to the difference between the bridge humbucker on the dual pickup model to the single humbucker. We believe it is because of the location of the pickup. It is located in the middle of the pickguard where the strings are more flexible. BTW I love the single just as much as I love every other pickup configuration that is offered on the Bongo. I still use my HH just as often as any of the other models. I just believe the single has been unfairly overlooked.

You're no doubt right on about the sonic characteristics of the single H Bongo.
I think another reason it's been overlooked is due to the novelty of having an EBMM bass with more than one pickup after so long without a dual pickup bass in the line.
There were a lot of us out there, apparently, who were just waiting for that two-pickup Musicman.

Neodymium magnets can be 4-10 times stronger than other magnets. The Bongo preamp is completely different than the Stingray preamp.

Back on topic--I absolutely loved the single humbucker Bongos I played at NAMM--I hope my fretless 5 string has half the growl of the 4 string H fretless I played.
If I manage to sell off some of my surplus musical gear, I fully intend to order a 5 string with a single humbucker and piezos so I can have one of each config. Anyone want a 6 string acoustic bass guitar?
