Well, this could be question for customer service, or someone of Sterling Balls, but any other EBMM players advice is welcome:

Could someone tell me first is there any difference in positions of H pickup on my Sterling 5 HS and Sterling 5 H?

Next, is there any difference in position of H pickup between my Sterling 5 HS and next EBMM's:
Bongo 5 H (or Hp), 25th 5 H (or new Reflex 5 H), Stingray 5 H (or Hp)

Let's focus about the distance between the bridge string ball end hole and H pickup! Right?

P.S. ...don't ask for inch or mm, just describe it to me with words, closer, far...etc. ;)

I ask that because my next EBMM will be single H 5 banger "working horse" and this informations could be very valuable to me for make a final decision!

Hi
As far as distance from the bridge, EBMM has two different measurements. One is for the Bongo HH and HS, where the bridge pick up is closer to he bridge, while all other EBMM basses has the bridge pick up in the classic MusicMan sweetspot.

However, due to differences in preamp, pickup, wood and perhaps also other things, the sound from a Bongo H is nothing like that of a Sterling HS with the bridge pick up soloed.

All the single pickup models (Bongos. Sterlings, SRs, Big AL and 25ths) have the bridge pup on the same relative distance from the bridge.

Among the multi pup models, the SR and Sterling HH/HS have the bridge pup in the same spot as the single pup ones. The Bongo and the HSS 25th have slighlty different bridge pup positions (they are further back).

I am not sure about the HH 25th.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate those informations! ;)

So, I see my Sterling's H pickup is practically at the same position as on the single H Sterling, right?, ...that's what I was doubted!

Now, let's suppose that for example incoming Reflex have same position of H pickup on single H model, and as far as I know it will have ceramic pickups like mine SL, including series/parallel switching + 4 band EQ, ...and if bodies will be made of ash, necks similar like mine Sterling (5 bolt screws)..., well I could get similar versatility and sound like with my Sterling played in single H position + bonus parallel switching and mighty 4 band EQ, ...right? :)

And that's what I really need for a "working horse" bass in 90% of live gigin' usage!
Also, I will still have my SL 5 HS for special occasions and special "bad sounding" spaces where only bridge single coil 1 can cut through...etc. ;)

Also considering Bongo H, or Hp but prefer Reflex, 'cause maple fret-board choice (I hope), ...SR 5 H (Hp) is just backup alternative (but You never know)

Please don't ask me why not single H Big Al 5?

Well, in theory that's exactly bass I would like to have in sound, but I'm to conservative according the design matter (read: to old :D ) ...so, I don't know, Al just don't fit in my way of performance... (but still considering anyway)

Big Al 5 is cool as anything. I think its a massive leap in design for basses despite it being a Al Lee Guitar design. I love it. Im very conservative with my basses (I like the old school shapes) but the Big Al 5 SSS looks STUNNING.

I am tempted by the Reflex also, but I think I really want to take a bolder step with the Big Al 5.

Yes you will have the Music Man bridge humbucker vibe with the single pup Reflex IF EBMM puts the bridge bucker in the same relative spot. You get that plus the versatility of the 18V 4 band pre with //, series and passive/active options. WIN WIN!

I just measured them and the 25th HH, the StingRay H and the StingRay HH have the bridge H at exactly the same position.

Yeah, WIN/WIN... single H at sweetspot position, 18V 4 band EQ preamp, series/parallel..., that's the way I see my new EBMM! :)
