After getting my Axis and new BFR Al i have been playing them almost exclusivley but a funny thing happened when i went back to try and play my Fender strat necks and others.....my hands were all over the place and could not pull off the types of bending and solo work i had been doing on the Axis and AL ....is this a common problem? are EBMM necks so different in play action that they take over muscle memory when mixed in with other types.

*dont get me wrong its not like i couldn't play the other necks ,its just that axis just semed to take over.

Have others had this problem( nice problem to have!), i notice that most on here have EBMM guitars almost exclusivley and was wondering if this was due to the same effect of the absolute unique Ernie Ball neck shape.

I hadn't picked-up my old guitar in over a year. Since getting my first MM (an Axis Super Sport), that guitar has been in solitary confinement. I recently gave that guitar to my best friend and played it for a few minutes before taking it to his house. I forgot how much cramping I'd get in my left hand when playing songs with lots of bar chords. I never have that problem with my EBMM's. I also realized that I'm more accurate and a tad faster on the EBMM necks. I attribute some of that to the unfinished necks -- love them.

I recently tried out an amp at a local guitar shop. I was given an Amiercan Strat to test the amp (they don't cary MM). The neck was...well, junk compared to my Silhoutte Special. There were several things about the Strat which I felt were inferior to the Silo Special, but the neck was the instant stand-out for me. I played a few minutes and decided to come back with my own guitar at a later date.

Thanks for this reply MB99
I was starting to think it was just all in my head... but i too had trouble going back to my old neckstyles..and also noticed a difference in my speed and accuracey as well.
When you start getting down to brass tacks these MM necks like the silo and axis and al really are different in their feel and playability...thanks for confirming its not just me:)

p.s all my EBMM necks are Maple unfinished as well.

no, you are not alone...my MusicMan killed any joy in playing other guitars as well. Too bad for them, haha. I prefer comfortable, effortless necks anyway... why would anyone want to go back.

Found out the same thing. I have sold all of my other brand guitars and now I only play Axis' due to those wonderful necks (maple unfinished of course, though dying to try a rosewood).

i had a similar experience recently in a music shop when i picked up a strat and the neck was horrible and way too fat for me to play comfortablely compared to playing any musicman.

This makes me realize I haven't really played any other electric guitars since I bought my JP6 two years ago... kinda sad.

I know for me, I got so used to my JP that I had to sell my strat. I didn't really wanna see it go because it was my first guitar, but I just could not settle with it anymore.

I used to go to GC, AM, etc and try other brands just remind myself how brilliant my al is. It's been over a year since I touched something other than a ebmm.

After playing something so right as an EBMM nothing else will do for me.

i've had a few 7banez guitars, but after discovering EBMM, there's no turning back.
I love my JP7 rosewood, but for some reason my Silo Spec feels like butter. I can't get enough of it!
I hope my DD2 Luke has a similar feel :)

To me, playing other necks is like giving my hands a vacation and getting out there. EBMM necks are like coming home.

:) I can relate to that. Sometimes I like the extra bit of shoulder on a strat or tele neck; nice for pull offs, trills, bluesy stuff. Notes sound more articulated than on my S Specials or Sport, and the acoustic itself expands, swells more, than with my MM. "Blue" (S Special) sounds "neater" and focused, more of a chops oriented guitar.

I love playing my Strat around home, but I wind up grabbing the Silo on the way out the door. For one, I can play it better than I can the Strat. The neck is as good as it gets for me. And two, with a pepped up hb, it's more versatile than what my Strat could ever dream of being. It's really like bringing at least two guitars along, in this neat little package. There's nothing, no style it won't play well. And I can show off real good with it. :D

I have experienced exactly the same thing. I bought my silhouette special and after 2 weeks I grabed my Ibanez. Result: I realized I hadn't been playing guitar till I had silhouette special. My ibanez is a great guitar among the guitars of its type but the narrow neck of musicman made me a different player. It is cpmpletely a different taste. Also a friend of mine who is in love with his guitar has a strat and I felt the same thing when I played his guitar after mine. He played musicman and said the guitar plays itself and now he wants to buy a musicman, too :)

I find that other guitars just aren't as comfortable. I can still play on them, but they don't have that EBMM feel to them.
