.... to all forumites. What is your bass-related New Year resolution?

Mine is to take my bass (self) instruction seriously this year -- and I bought Ed Friedman's (a forumite, too) Walking Bass Lines book and have started practicing the exercises and music reading daily. But, I can already tell a difference in my playing. My dear wife walked through my music area today and noticed, too!! What does it mean when I feel like I need a nap after each lesson?

Bass related New Year's resolutions:

- sell some instead of buying more... (or at least stick to one out before one in)
- write less, play more
- learn songs instead of noodling around
- do more recording and get back to writing songs

Focus on timing, precision, cleanliness and playing in sync with the drummer.

You know, the basic rhythm section stuff that seems dull, but is the hallmark of a hot, tight band.

Excellent advice, and something that I'll be taking on this year. I just started playing bass in '09 after playing guitar very poorly for around a decade and a half. I'll be taking bass instruction quite seriously this year because bass is a great creative outlet, and it's just so much fun to play.

  1. Less GAS; more bass
  2. No more BALLS (after Classic Collection!:D)
  3. Learn all songs we play at church
  4. Start learning to read music
  5. Find MY tone
