Happy with 2000 SR5... now chase?

Recently picked up a beautiful 2000 Trans Red SR5 and love it (ceramic).

Now I'm looking at which would be a better tonal contrast to it...

Sterling5
Bongo5
Big Al 5 (Not really looking to wait for them to get out there en' masse, I'd rather just pick up a Big Al 5 later)

My heart keeps telling me Bongo5, but it would be nice to have access to the Sterling punchiness.

My main gig is a general classic rock/country/pop cover band.

Agreed. The Bongo brings something really massive to the mix. I love switching between my SR5 and Bongos.

It's hard to go wrong. My first one was the HH and I still love that combination, but "at the gig" found that I would rather have the simplicity and all-around explosiveness of the single H.

At home, when no one's watching, at least these days, I'm enjoying the HS configuration.

So my take is: you can't go wrong.

Where my SR5 is a single H I think I want a dual pickup for versatility.

And I don't think I really need more smooth/polite, so that's moving me away from the H/S and toward the H/H I think. I think...


Hmmm, not finding real info via search regarding character of HS vs HH config Bongo 5's.

Any comments regarding the nature of the two beasts?

I agree the ceramic SR5s single H is great, especially with the series setting.

but...don't forget the Bongo PIEZO option. I had a chance to play a Bongo HHP that I wish I had bought on the spot. (ADouglas can pitch in here...)

I don't see myself needing a more acoustic or enhanced clarity sound. At least at this point, on this bass.

Unless my research on the piezo has given me a false impression as to what it provides tonally.

If it's on a bass I have an opportunity to buy I obviously wouldn't 'not' buy one because of it, but it's not a must-have option for me personally.
