I'm trying to find out what is the exact correct case for a 1989 Stingray. I was told that there are subtle differences in the hardcases supplied over the years. I reckoned the best place to ask was here.

Case inquiry

Same sort of question here. If this is the right place for case inquiries?
Have a (per Joel) '88 Trans teal rosewood over birdseye SR #26026
and wondered if the case that came w it (same as Bert's above w no logo anywhere)
would be accurate for that year model . ? apology- the pics show bases in
wrong (switched) cases. I believe the bullet case to be correct for the '76.

Usually referred to as a "Tear Drop" case. It was only available as an optional case for both Sting Ray & Sabre Bases from circa 1980 to end of Pre-EB period.

They're not that common but you see them now and then. They seem to be sought after. I'd love to have one.

PS. Going by pics I have of 1986 Basses that have their cases included, I'd say your other case is period-correct.

'Other" case being the black Tolex being period correct for the '86?
If that's the case (sorry), what case would be correct oem for the 76 Pre EB?

Going on pics I have, 1976 and 1986 seem to be (in the main) black Tolex. I'm aware of different interior colours, layout, latch and handle variations over the years. All I can say is that a black tolex case would be period-correct for 1976 and 1986. I can't say what the exact appointments would be for those two years.

My '79 Case is black with white thin lines. The '96 lines are silver coloured. Don't know when the switch was.

Just curious. When did the label of the name of the bass get added to the cases?

Got a used stingray from 2001 and a used Bongo from 2004 and neither had the labels on the case.
