hardtail-ing an Axis??

Hi, I’ve been following the forums for a while but don’t post much. When I got my ball I duely posted pics so it does exist ;-).

I love my bcb axis, sound and feel. What kills me is the locking tremolo. It’s a preference thing, nothing against it. The fine tuners normally are enough but I don't like have having to make sure to have a tool around. The tremolo is fun, but I rarely use it.

Getting a hardtail would be ideal, or maybe giving the ASS another shot but not looking at those options at the moment.

Considering:
- not using the locks at the nut
- adding springs/tension to the tremolo so it doesn’t move when I bend

What effect would that have on the guitar? Any risks to do that? It seems easy enough to try, just wondering if there are any downsides to that. Or maybe the nut won’t like it, adjustments to be made, buzzing, etc.

PS: I prefer the Axis over the Ass for the setup (toggle, one knob), also when comparing I thought it had a bit more “bite”.

I cut a block of hardwood to fit snugly between the floating bridge and the guitar body. In essence, this "fixed" the bridge. When I wanted my Floyd Rose action back, I pulled the block...all without modding my Axis!

You could consider fitting a tremol no Take a look at their demo videos - it might very well doo what you are after - and it's something that can be fitted without modding your guitar.

You're idea works just fine. The wood block is perfect too I did that many times over the years. The tremol-no is the nicist choice but it's not cheap, the wood idea will cost under $5 and is beyond easy to do.

You are right about the Axis having more bit than the ASS that is because of the tone knob. Many guys have unwired there tone knob so that although you see when there it is not connected so it's just a Vol and 5way blade under the "hood" and without the tone knob Axis and Ass = the same.

as far as the locking nut goes, you can find a replacement "ebanol" nut system that will bolt in using the existing lock nut bolts. They're on ebay, you just have to dig. Put one on another guitar and it works quite well.
