im going to buy a hartke vx410 cab because i love the sound when i play it with my stingray. I tried it using the hartke 3500 head. don't get me wrong, it sounded great, but is there any other 400+ watt heads that wont destroy my bank account?

Hartke is nothing to be ashamed of. I used a 2115 combo for years and loved it, especially after I added a 2-10 cabinet.

Friend of mine still has it, and we often use it for recording at lower volume levels.

I thought long and hard about the Hartke 3500 head when I had to upgrade from my Hartke Kickback combo. However, doubt got the better of me as my kickback let me down on a number of occasions so I went for the GK400RB IV head.

I wanted to be loyal to Hartke because I did like the sound.

How about the Hartke 5500? That looks like a nice amp, but I haven't tried it myself. You could probably find something good on eBay too. Maybe some used Ampeg, Eden or SWR head.

If you want a 3500 head, I have a nice one that I'll sell you. PM me if you are interested. It's about 5 years old and has been in a rack case all of it's life. I just recently switched to a preamp/ amp set up so I don't use it anymore.

IMO Ampeg is the way to go. Then again its all a matter of taste. Plug into an svt-cl and i think you would like it. Ampeg mixed with a MM equals a great sound!

Yes, well, no doubt about that, but ampegs are just a bit pricier than hartkes, eh?

+1 !

Got the SR5 plugged into a hartke 3500, driving an ampeg 4x10'' pro cab and an ampeg 1x15'' classic cab.
Beautiful things happened to my sound when I added the 1x15'' to the rig :) :) :)

I love my ampeg cabs :D

Have you considered a Carvin head? I have had one for 3 years and it has held up like a tank. The number of output configurations and and tone adjustments allow you to get a LARGE variety of sounds.
Most of them good.

Since they released the new models, the older Redline series has become very affordable in the used market. You could easily pick an R600 for $300.

ashdown anyone?

Personally I use an Asdown AMB500 2x10 with a Hartke 4x10 extension and the sounds is massive....

Perhaps its just that the Ashdown boys are just down the road from me in Colchester and produce great amps..

You should move it way up on the list too. I searched for a new amp for almost a year, and had 3 on the final shortlist (Tech21 Landmark 600, Eden WT550 and Ashdown ABM500). I bought the Ashdown, and haven't regreted it one second. :D It even looks cool, and that's always a bonus.
