Specifically, a Duncan JB in the bridge position?
I'm a big fan of both the Custom Custom and the JB and was wondering what your impressions were if you've installed either one.
Do they complement the stock neck pup nicely?
Do the postion 2 and 4 sounds sound any better/worse?
Thanks
PS..BTW, would I use the standard or F spacing for the musicman trem? (Jon?)

yes, I do indeed have a JB in my axis..in the bridge of course, and I have a duncan JAzz in the neck....

anywho, I have the trembucker (f spaced)...I have the same bridge pup in my lynch ESP..

anywho, the thing sounds killer in this gutiar....nice and chunky, but still articulate..I think it's a great compliment to the tone woods...cleans up nicely when you back off the guitar's volume as well..

I can't comment on how it would sound with the stock neck pup..but the jazz and the JB are a pretty good match....I think I would actually prefer a duncan 59 in the neck though..but the jazz is good enough for now, for what I use it for...

anyway, I know alotta guys on the duncan forums dig the custom as well..that and the jb are always being compared...'which do you like better' polls and that sorta thing..but personally, I love the JB..fantastic friggin' pup...

only thing is, my buddy who installed them 'shimmed' them for me..since you can't really adjust the pup height in these things (one of the few things I don't like about this guitar), he just put some washers under the plate to raise it up...

hope that helps! I think you'll dig the JB...dunno how it would match up with the stock neck pup though!

thanks shred,
How close are those pups to the strings? Why do you think the 59 would be preferable to the Jazz? (I understand the Jazz and JB are a great match)
Was there anything about the stock pups you didn't particularly dig?
Also, how do the split coils sound (assuming we're talking about the SS)?
Thanks! :)

right now I think the bridge pup is about 3/16 from the strings..maybe a little closer..it could be pulled back a bit but since my buddy 'shimmed' them, they really can't go down much farther..so I pulled the pole pieces in...

yeah, the JB/jazz is usually the combination, THE combination according to mr. duncan himself =) I think I should probably move it towards the strings a little bit..right now it's about twice as far away from th em as the JB is, so I have the pole peices pulled up a bit...while that helps, I don't think you'd get the same effect as if you pulled the whole pup up...maybe someone can confirm/deny that for me...

anyway, I think the 59 is supposed to have a little more oomph than the jazz..this of course is a preference thing (as with all things guitar..LOL)...being that I use bridge pups more than neck pups, I think I can speak more informatively on those than neck pups...

I just didn't think the dimarzios were fat enough for me..I think they had plenty of output, but they sounded a little thin to me..I've always been a duncan man..ever since I put a hot rails in my fake strat about 13 or so years ago..all of my guitars have had duncans in them...my buddy in my band has always been a dimarzio guy..he's got a couple super distortions..I don't like them..they have a harsh quality...I usually find guitars I play wiht duncans in them tend to suit me more...just my opinion! Anywho, he likes my JB's so much that he's probably going to get rid of the super distortions..

when you mean, split coils..do you mean the center position where the neck/bridge pup are working together at the same time? you'd think I'd know what that means by now...lol...I have a normal axis with the floyd rose so maybe this is a feature of the super sports that mine doesn't have...anywho, it's nice and twangy in that position..good for finger picking and clean stuff and whatnot...hope this helps!

thx shred,
actually, tes, the SS has a 5-way switch which (in the 2 and 4 position) give you pseudo strat/tele sounds by placing the the coils in parallel-a useful sound.
Thanks for the info.
Am I to assume that of all the posters here, only you have the JB in your Axis ;) ?
Anyone else....

is that the middle position on the five way? I think we may be talking about the same thing...cause that's what happens in the middle position of mine...gets a twang...very single coilish (and even on the wiring diagram, it explains it as such)

I know someone who had a JB/59 set in their peavy wolfgang (similar woods and such)

here's a soundclip:

I'm considering it. I might pick up another axis to experiment with. The one I have is so awesome I just hate to touch it. :p
