and if so what did you replace it with?? I personally find the 24 fret JP neck makes the neck pickup sound a little too brittle. Id like to find something in the DiMarzio line thats warmer but yet I still want that split coil sound from the middle pickup setting. Any ideas??

I know a couple people on here have swapped the bridge pickup, but NEVER the neck pickup. That thing is perfect, IMO.

Breed? Maybe a PAF? I don't really know, because I don't find it lacking in the slightest.

I did! a fred pickup from dimarzio,I like the stock pickup but the fred kills it!Only downside you should swap the bridge too being fred is a bit hot pickup you always want the highest output in bridge but CRAZY harmonics and great chords and cleans (coil tap )if you aren't afraid to switch it up!I trully don't like the d sonic it sounds "average" to me I'm more a tone zone guy!

I'm thinking of replacing mine with a PAF Joe... Problem is, ever since the 20th RW came in, I think I'll be neglecting the JP6 for a bit... heh...

Thanks for the ideas guys...again IMO the JP neck pickup is NOT perfect. In a side by side tonal comparison with my Axis Sport, the JP6 neck p/up played clean with my amp is midrangy and brittle. True the tone control helps smooth it out a little but the Sport wins hands down as far as a GREAT neck pickup tone. Im also concerned that the JP 24 fret neck harmonically moves the neck pickup to a less desirable area of the strings so maybe its not the pickups fault but the pickups location...

I swapped mine out for a Seymour Duncan 59'. I like it's warm clear punch for solos. No boost needed. :)

Brittle? I've always thought of that pickup as fat and warm. Of course, there are so many other factors to consider.

Actually...my old Petrucci, I swapped out both pick ups. I put an SH-58 in the neck and a Dimebucker in the bridge.

I'll just at my 2 cents to say I think the Petrucci neck PU can be, at times, brittle.
