Has Mahogany ever been used for an Axis??

Hey guys i am wondering if Mahogany has ever been used in the creation of an Axis???
That sounds to me like it would be a killer combo. A nice Lightweight piece of Mahogany with the maple top.


what do you guys think??

I don't know if it's ever been done as a prototype, but I've not heard of it.

If we were going to see something like this, I would guess that it would come in a BFR form. The BFR Axis range does feature the Mahogany tone block, which may mean that they've tried all mahogany with the maple cap though.

I would guess that they've found that they can get the tonal response from the mahogany block that you'd see in an all mahogany body, but with a lighter weight body.....?

I know what you mean about it being a good combination though. I'd love to see a mahogany body, with the maple cap, Gold Top, Rosewood fingerboard and MM90's.

We'll see what the guys are coming out with though, as there looks to be a lot of great stuff in the works.

what is the mahogany tone block???

It's a super secret design used by EBMM, which I think was first used on the 20th Silo.

It's a block of mahogany which runs from the neck pocket, underneath the pickups to the bridge. The actual specs of the block aren't publicised (for obvious reasons) but it makes a great tonal difference to the sound.

God Job JimmyB! The best combo we have found is the basswood/toneblock/maple top
the mahog was heavy and not as resonant as we wanted

If or when a BFR axis SS with the tone block, etc. becomes available, I'll be all over it. (hopefully that pic of Morse and his kid from this weekend is indicative of things to come)

I've actually postponed my current plans for an ASS until more concrete details are out about a possible BFR model. I figure I win either way...I either end up being rewarded for my patience with my dream guitar, or I just end up getting a killer guitar with more time to save $$.

to be honest, it just looks like a regular ASS with a nice top and a BFR inlay. It's definitely more of a tonal thing (and obviously at this point I'm just making assumptions) that makes me excited at the idea of a BFR axis. Just the thought, though, of a BFR ASS in something like the walnut burst....*drool*

Yup, that's an Axis proto from the party. Gorgeous. Didn't get a chance to plug it in, but there was one at the Dallas party last year as well and it sounded great.

So, all the BFRs will have rosewood fingerboards? That dark red burst would look nice with a maple fingerbord and a matching dark red headstock....just my 2 cents.
