Hey guys, long time. Hope everyone's been hanging in there or better these last however many months since I was last tuning in regularly. I see a lot of very cool stuff.

Just before I tuned out for a while, I'd told you guys about our upcoming move home to Alabama, to bring the Love Brigade (our family) to bear in full force in my mother's battle with cancer. Well, it wasn't to be, Mom had other plans, and left us a month or so later, in November of last year. So we packed up again and moved right back here to CO in December. Thanks again for the support you guys showed back then. It played its part.

When we got back to CO, the separation/divorce plans that had been on the back burner while we went to be with Mom, went in to effect. That's tough stuff, as many of you know, I'm sure. I'm finally coming out the other side of a period during which I didn't give much of a damn about anything, other than my boys, who eventually reminded me who I was, and who I wasn't willing to be. So ... I'm back!

This is not a request for prayers or pity, though I've been there, and you guys helped me a lot. This is me re-engaging, saying "what's up?!", and getting back in to the things I'm in to. And what's the relevance to the EBMM universe? Well, after over 15 years, I'm finally joining a band, here in Boulder. A funk band. Well, I'm auditioning soon, but I feel good about it. And in any case, even if it's not that particular band, the decision's been made ... it's time to join or assemble some lads.

But for the first time in many years, I am bassless, so I'm looking to acquire something asap, and of course, it <see title>. Divorce = duplicated expenses, support of two households, etc.., so needless to say, I'm looking for a screamin deal (aren't we all). Something in a pre-owned Ray34 for starters - that type of thing. I've been hitting the pawn shops, looking for one of those once in a blue moon crazy finds, no luck yet.

So that's my request - if you see a crazy good deal that you're compelled to pass on yourself, please let me know, PM or whatever. Much appreciated.

Good to be back.

Robert,

Sorry to hear about your situation. I was actually thinking of selling my 2005 Sterling 4H. Our medical bills are piling up so I thought about letting this one go. PM me if you are interested.

Here are some recent pictures of her.

Hey Jay. Very cool, thanks. What a classic beauty. I'll survey the landscape for some form of Ray first, just because I wanna step back in to the band scene with what my hands are used to, primarily the wider nut width. Gorgeous bass, though.

And like I said, no need to feel bad about my situation. My mother's passing, well, what can any of us say about that when it happens. But the divorce ... **** happens, right? Life is good. It's just the background on why I'm looking to step in to a Ray 34 right now, instead of ... something a little fancier. So, while your compassion is much appreciated, I'm a happy camper today. Thanks again.

Hey, thanks for the headsup, mbp. That may be just the ticket right there. All the ones I'd seen were new.

While on the topic of SBMM in general, I haven't played one yet. Given what it is, and the blessing and official sanctioning that it has, I just completely take it for granted that it delivers the goods. BP put his name on it, say no more type of thing in my mind. For shiggles, though, and because I'm amped, I'm gonna grab the boys and go to GC right now. I'll spend at least half my time following my 4 year old very closely around the drum department.

What Guitar Center do you go to? I either go to the one in Ft. Collins or the one in Englewood on East County Line Rd.

Arvada, and some times Denver. Just got home with a Silver Burst Ray34. Got a killer clearance price. Looks like a Ray ... sounds like a Ray ... feels like a Ray. It's a Ray!

Robert, I am sorry to hear about the loss of your mother and your pending divorce. Same thing happened to me 10 years ago. I moved on and although it took a while, I have rebounded in a better situation. My 2nd wife is awesome and I am happier. Cost me a house - so what. I wish all the best in your journey and oh yeah, congratulations on the new bass.

I am seriously impressed with this Ray34. I anticipated good things, but I thought there'd be some mildly discernible quality hit. There is none. The value is just incredible. Most importantly, it sounds as good as any Ray I've ever owned (ok, with the possible exception of the 30th). BP, this is dangerous ground you're treading! But thanks for making it available.

Not to dump on the new import line, but you did ask for
a screamin deal .... and the deal that screams loudest is
often a real clean used S.U.B. They come in active and
passive and not all of them have the dreaded "diamond
plate" tinware PG. Most have a regular black PG. Passive
is kinda rare, and active is always 2-band. Pricing runs
$400 to about $550 .... with or without case or bag.

Man, that was fast. You obviously mean business. Good luck with the new venture.

Yep, good point, and I definitely considered that and looked around a bit. I'm happy with this bad boy, though. Some of the bene's of this choice: love the finish (I still think Silver Burst would be the new Blue Dawn for the Bongo), it's new yet the price was well on the inside of that range you mentioned, and I only needed to drive down the road to get it. Needed to get practicing again asap, with an audition coming up fast.

Nope, got a ridiculously good deal, probably the best deal I've ever gotten on a bass. And I'd rather have the Ray34 anyway. Thanks for the 411, though.
