What type of pickguard do you recommend for the graphite pearl color - black looks okay but I may want to change it out? Also what kind of strings sound best? Do flatwounds sound good on a SR? Thanks again for all of your input!

Absolutely *must* try some strings before you write it off. You put some flats on a hot ax like a Ray and the earth moves. You don't live in california do you? The reason Rays are shipped with roundwounds is that they are built in california. Testing every MusicMan built, using flats, would probably cause half of california to slide into the pacific.

OK, so it's not a burst finish, it's gray. Put a red tortise PG on it. If you ask, someone here will photoshop you some PG options on a gray Ray. You just got here. Welcome to the hotel california ..... you can never leave.

Re-programming the staions I would think would be like changing the tone. Replacing about 1/3 of the face of a bass, would definitely be more like repainting or changing it's visual personality. Just my opinion.

I just have a deep-seated need to change pickguards. I have TEN PICKGUARDS just hanging around the house. Even I don't know how I got that many. They're stuck to the wall like art. I even have a Sterling (bass, not human) pickguard up there. It's been a LONG time since I had a Sterling (bass, not human).
