HD-500 channel switch

Here is the problem. When I plug the footswitch to my HD-500, the amp goes to the 2nd Eq. Channel and stucks there. I can change the Ch1/Ch 2 when the footswitch is not plugged using the amp front pannel switch. I think it is a problem with the switch on the footswitch but I don´t have another HD-500 around (I am in Brazil) to test it. Also the light on the footswitch Ch1/Ch2 is always off. I didn´t remember if it goes on/off or if it toggles between green and red as the front pannel one. Can someone help me with this info?
