OK, serious newbie question. I was looking at a trans gold MM on Musicians Friend, and the headstock was unpainted. The one I bought off eBay is trans blue with matching headstock. Is there a reason why some have matching and some do not? Is this a really stupid question? (be honest). I personally like the matching color.

Not a stupid question at all. It's all about the options. When you order a guitar you have a choice between matching and non-matching headstock. Simple as that.

Thanks, I thought maybe at some point they changed, but that makes sense, just another option.

just to be silly,
Matching headstocks are not an option on a natural axis. I believe it comes standard on that one only.

It does seem that some models typically have a matching headstock "JP', where as others typically do not 'Silhouette Special'.

Actually, Norm, when I was pricing out a few models, the Natural Axis did have the matching headstock option. Now, that might have changed since the last time I did the quote, but it was available.

And the rosewood Axis/ASS!

Yes, very true smart guy.;)

Yeah, the same seems to be true for the Axis and Axis SS. They are mostly ordered with matching headstock. And it just seems to be rare that the floyd axis gets ordered with non matching headstock.

There are exceptions to the rule, but on the majority of the stuff you have a choice.:D

I wonder if you chose matching headstock EBMM puts a clear-coat over the headstock. Whereas with a non-matching headstock it is left natural (unfinished).

That is exactly what they do, we have had both come through!
