I discovered how strong the EQ on my Stingray is.

I was thinking about getting some amplified headphones to practice my Bass at night with so I would not disturb other family members. Just for the heck of it I plugged my regular (unamplified) Sony headphones into my Stingray and cranked the volume control and EQ all the way up.......I was surprised how loud it was into the phones, It wasn't ear splitting or anything close but I could adjust the 3 band EQ and hear much difference in the adjustments that I was making.

Also fooled around with the pickup height and was able to hear a difference there too.

Anyone else tried this?.............:)

I haven't tried it but I'm certainly going to. Thanks for the tip!

I tried it with my Sterling, and while I could hear the signal through the headphones for me it isn't really strong enough to use on it's own...

Mileage would probably vary greatly with different ohmed headphones.

If it works for a Ray, I'm sure it's even louder with a Bongo.
Yep, They work for the Bongo, If I need to rehearse without a mixer and an I-pod
I would suggest the lightweights because the larger ones with bigger magnets
tend to distort at a lower volume.

I've been doing that for years and it is an excellent way to give the PUP a final adjustment to even out volume across all strings.

Guess it depends on the impedance of the headphones because I can barely hear the Bongo with my Sennheiser Pros which are 64 ohms...either that or my batteries are weak. But that's why I use my Pandora box :D .

This Bass is the 2nd Stingray that I have owned. I never tried it with the 1st one.

The headphones that I use are just regular stereo phones (8 ohms I believe) that you would plug into your audio system at home. 64 ohms would be too much load for the output and would sound weak or no sound at all.

The ones you use on a walkman would work but you would need an adapter from the mini plug to 1/4" guitar size plug.........:)

I never even thougt about trying that, but it's a good idea. It would avoid using the cable to plug in the mutlieffect I use to play with headphones (of course it lacks the drum machine and record ability, but I don't allways use them). Thanks for charing the trick !

That's cool, I always wondered if that would work, but never had headphones with a 1/4" jack or an adaptor to try it. Gonna have to find me an adaptor now. Cheers for the info!

Bongo with Sennheiser HD25 here, but It's mostly for finetuning PU height. The preamp packs a serious punch though, and the actual caracter of the Bongo comes out fine.
Works really well for that, doesn't it?:D
