headstock finishes?

my y2ds natural headstock is clearcoated and my ass isnt. whats the reasoning behind this? is it a year thing or a model thing? i guess it doesnt really matter but its got me curious

As far as I know it's a model thing...all the natty headstocks I ever saw were clear coated, some glossy and some matte...my Y2D's headstock is glossy, my Albert's are matte.

I've just checked out some of mine.

The 20th (matching headstock) is gloss clear coated.
My Sport (natural) has a matt coat.
My Super Sport has a gloss coat.

I've not checked the other two, as they're not here, but I'm sure that they're both coated as well. It could be that the ASS you have is coated, but with a matt finish.

I know the "cheaper" JP6s have a matte headstock. But thats why I have a painted on
