I have played with super slinky strings for years, recently I decided to try Skinny Top Heavy Bottom strings on a friends suggestion because I play down tuned rythem mostly C or drop C.Well I love the attack with these heavier strings but I have lost my "flavor"..pinch harmonics that I hit on the 5th and 6th strings with my thumb in my chunky rythem playing.
I just put these strings on today and it is evident that if I decide to keep this string guage I will need to file my nut on the 5th and 6th strings to acommodate the new thickness, also I have a older ibanez locking trem that I use as a fixed bridge with fine tuners...that I will have to lock down tight because of the higher string tension.I would gladly do the mods if I will get back the harmonics when the strings are at the proper height and not bound at the nut...but I dont know?
Are the heavier strings more resistant to harmonics?
I play thru a overdriven marshall with no distortion or OD pedals and have come to love this tone.My frankenstien Ibanez roadstar is loaded with seymour duncan hot rails in the bridge..16.9k cant get much hotter without going active pups.
will the mods get my sound back?or should I go back to the super slinkys?

ok Im impatient so I will answer my own question
It just happened that Fed Ex brought me a new toy today(new to me)
A Ibanez SZ520 that I scored on Ebay for a mere $250,when I opened the box I was suprised to see that the guitar had no strings and the nut was bouncing around in the case  then a light went off in my cranium...this will be my guinee pig! I borrowed my g/fs Revelon metal fingernail file( yes it worked great) and opened up the 5th&6th string slots(any mad scientist frankenstein builders out there wanna do this u dont need to bring it to a Tech, just file the width little by little not the depth) I glued on the nut waited4 it to dry and strung it and set up the bridge..it took longer to adjust my guitar strap than to set up the bridge...love this one...anyway back to the strings,I put on my 2nd set of skinny Top Heavy Bottom strings and wallah! Nice! I was so pleased I did the same to the nut on my roadstar(my first post..remember that ^?) Well I am plased to say that these are the strings 4 me,the harmonics are there and actually more solid sounding It might have also helped that I now have several hours of playing time on this new guage for me.I cant imagine going to the not even slinkys,I do need to bend the strings abit to get my harmonics singing right so anyway ...uhm..yeh
My Frankenstein Roadstar still sounds better than my new SZ(thank you Mr.Duncan)but that just gives me another opportunity to operate :D and
I like my strings just like my women Skinny Tops Heavy Bottoms Rock!
