HELLLP!! HOw much is a Musicman Silhouette Custom Really Worth!??

Hey guys! I'm new to this world, But Man, do I ever dig Music Man Guitar's!!! I've got small hand and those medium frets are a dream come true! I've been playing for 10 years now!

But I REALLY Need some help/advice!!! How much is ths guitar worth?!? Is it a higher end model like the American Strat is to Fender or is it the lower end of the Spectrum, like Squier is to Fender??

I love the Silhouette guitars. If you want to give a comparison to a Strat I would say it's much more in the realm of the more expensive US made and way better than the MIM Strats.

Compared to the other EBMM guitars, it's one of the cheaper ones.... but they are still my favorite.

Do you own one or are you looking to buy one. The Silo is an EBMM guitar plain and simple. The Sterling line is to EB as the Squire is to Fender, or Epiphone to Gibson if you want to put it in terms like that.

Could you maybe specifiy, what you exactly mean by "Silhouette Custom"...are you looking at a certain guitar, that you have seen somewhere?

I played a whole lot of strat-type guitars throughout the past 25 years, and the Silo is in any respect a superior instrument to ALL Fender/Squier standard models, though still being at the lower end of the EBMM production line.

But this is what makes EBMM instruments special - quality is never compromised. I cannot tell that of most of the other manufacturers....even on their expensive models

So compared to other EBMM guitars this is one of the cheaper ones eh? Hmmm. What about the fact that it's a "Custom" Musicman Silhouette? This is likely a dumb question, but What does Custom mean when applied to EB guitars?

@straycat113- I don't own one, but I'm seriously considering buying one within the next couple of weeks. I've waited 10 years for this upgrade (I've only owned a Fender Squire Korean made Fat Strat before). But I've played numerous guitars. & PRS were at the top of my favourites list for a while but always out of my price range. But now after realizing the EBMM guitars have Medium-sized frets, I'm starting to fall in love with them, lol. I've got smaller hands, so a smaller fretboard would do wonders for my playing! So the "Sterling" line is the Squire/Epiphone of the EBMM World? But this model I'm speaking of is or isn't a "Sterling"?

Alright, and I forgot to mention, the model I'm considering is "circa 2006". & the guy's askin' for about $1100. Is that a bargain, I mean Really? Or should I shop around for another Music Man guitar at a better deal. Please bear in mind this is a HUGE Deal for me!

Well actually I've been looking at 2, but I don't enough about the other one to discuss just quite yet (I'll check it out this Saturday). So it's at the lower end of EBMM Spectrum eh :S. But at $1100 it can't be that low right? Could you please tell me what exactly is at the lower end of the spectrum, is the "Silhouete" model? or the Silhouete Custom"?

Corwin, the best thing would be, you ask the guy for pics and post them here, so the congregation of expertise can have a look and judge...this worked fairly well in the past

I would be very careful with all the circa-data that you are offered...you can get used Silos for less....unmodded. And by the way - there were no Sterlings in 2006

the Silhouette

and the Silhouette Special

The Silhouette has 24 frets The Silhouette Special has 22 frets. Do some research first before you rush into anything. Both are fantastic guitars.

Oh, & one other quick question off topic regarding EBMM Guitars

THis may be yet another dumb question, but one I really would like to know the answer to,

They emphatically state that the scale length on EBMM guitar's is THE SAME as Fender's - 25.5". I DO NOT Understand how that works out given that EBMM have Medium-sized frets and Fender have Jumbo? How is this possible?

My only working theory at the moment is that the medium sized frets on the EBMM are consistent right up the neck, while Fender's Jumbo frets start off large and then get slightly smaller as they work their way up the neck. Is that the story or is there more to it? Thanks..

That is the point - EBMM does not offer a "Custom" model. It may be a "Special", which is the 22-fret, SSH version of the Silo. But it may also be a overprized, "modded-to-death" standard Silo Some close up pics will reveal all sorts of weaknesses

Corwin: the standard musicman quality is on par with custom shop models in general. the silo happens to be cheaper because it's simpler in design, a workhorse guitar if you will. many ppl call them customs because of the wide array of options available.

ball family reserve is the term used to coin the uppermost part of EBMMs instruments, and these are quite luxurious, by ANY standards. but right now, there is no BFR silo except for the double neck.

regarding scale, it has nothing to do with fret size. it's simply the distance between nut and bridge.

Corwin, the scale does not have anything to do with the fret size....it's all a matter of positioning

...plus, I'm a little frightened that you may be overheating....you seem extremely excited

@ colin- I love the Idea of 24-fret guitar. But like I said, I've got smaller hands/shorter arms, which generally means 24-frets means too much of a stretch to the 1st fret(bar chords). But that may or may not be the case with EBMM, because of their smaller design (though they have the same scale length as Fender-so maybe not?)

That looks like an Ebony LE, special run some years ago with ebony fretboard...if it is and it's in mint condition (as it looks), get it for the $1100. The black ice pickguard is discontinued right now.

corwin: if i'm not mistaken, that guitar has an ebony fretboard. if it does, it's a really rare silhouette. either way, a nice guitar and a respected dealer afaik.

Corwin, I have small hands and short fingers as well....it took me almost 25 years to get the guitar that fits these hands best. And that's the Silo

@ E-Mate, LOL... I am pretty darn excited. I finally can afford to get a guitar that I can be proud to play live. One that doesn't have cardboard tone and squeel in all the wrong ways. & these Medium-sized frets have struck me like a Revelation from above (well not that intense but still pretty awesome!). SO now I know it's only a matter of time..

@ Dante & E.Mate - Ok, I realize that the scale length is the distance from the nut to the bridge. But I guess where I'm getting mixed up, is that I imagine a single medium fret, and then I multiply that in my mind by 22. & then I do the same with a Jumbo fret x22. ANd I imagined the one to be longer than the other. But that's because I'm not taking into account the fact that the frets get smaller as they move up the fret board?
