I have been creaping around on this fourm for a long time now and finally pulled the trigger a couple weeks ago on getting my dream bass. After much begging and pleading with my wonderful wife I finally got my SR4HH in Pacific Blue Burst.

First impressions, The pure craftmanship is amazing. The knobs turn so smooth, The tuners look like a fine peice of jewlery, then oil rubbed neck is amazing. Most of all the sound is perfect. I have wanted this base for so long now, to actually have one hanging on my wall is a deam come true.

The only thing I am suprised about is the action is alittle higher then I expected. I have a beautiful Dean Edge Quilted Finish 6 string and after i fiddled with it and made some adjustments, The action is better then any bass I have ever played. Takes what seems like no pressuer to the strings on the Dean and plays so fast. The SR4 is not bad by anymeans but I am suprised on the hight of the strings for such an expensive bass.

Do you guys find this true with yours when you recived them? Did you make adjustments to it or just let it be? I am good at setting up basses but would hate to fiddle with it and ruin what I consider just about perfect. Again it is an excellent bas and dont mind the action but wish it was as low as my Dean.

Just a tweak of the truss rod and your good to go! Congrats on the bass!

What he said! On Music Man's website, it shows what factory string height is. Just tighten down the truss rod a slight bit and you should be good to go. It should take maybe 1/4 to 1/2 at the most.

I prefer a lower action than the factory settings. When I get a new EBMM bass, I usually drop each saddle by a full turn of each allen screw. That maintains the relative string height and matches the radius of the neck, while lowering all the strings an equal amount. Then I adjust the truss rod to get the amount of relief that I prefer.

I made some adjustments yesterday and now it is perfectly set up. dont understand why they dont set it up like that from the factory but regaurdless it was easy. Love the position and easy acess to the truss rod too. Anywya thanks for the advice. I am in love with this base!

They ship these all over the world, to every climate imaginable, and make it so every player can self adjust rather easily, so that's why they aren't shipped to your exact specifications.

I go the other way with my EBMM's, they have all been to low for me and I've had to adjust them so I can dig in without excessive fret buzz.

I guess EBMM set them aiming for the Middle Ground knowing every instrument is easy to fine tune to personal preference.

very nice!

anyway, the reason why the action is high is most likely due to climate change. it may have been set up perfectly when it left the factory, but changes in temperature and moisture can make the neck shift quite a bit. When I got my 5H I had to tighten the rod a bit before the action came down to where I like it. I usually keep it around .100 - .110, which is a bit higher than the recommended .094 action.

As for pickup height, I take it as high as i can without getting string warbling in the higher frets.
