You might remember my thread from last week asking about trading in my PRS for an Axis SS at my local store. Well today I bit the bullet and made the trade. In a way I was sad to see my PRS Custom 22 go, there was not a thing wrong with it and it played/sounded like you would expect from a good PRS, but I just couldn't connect with it. I played it again last night and came to the sad conclusion that it would continue to sit in its case if I hung on to it.

So I stopped by the store today, walked in with my PRS and walked out with my new Axis. This guitar, much like my new Silo, plays so effortlessly it's sick, and it's got great resonance and it's light as a feather. I can't wait to plug it in tonight. The color is Blueburst, but the reflection of the sky washed out the "burst" edges, and there's just a hint of birdseye in the neck/fingerboard. The top is not a heavy quilt, but it's subtle and very nice. Hard to see in the crappy pic I posted.

As a bonus, the guy at the shop who helped me was Eric Turner from Warrant :D Super nice guy and was very careful handling the guitar. I don't want to speculate on his role at Wild West (I didn't ask, though I've seen him there a few times before), but he was a great guy to work with. Fortunately for me, these guys are literally right down the street from where I work, and they carry some primo gear, but I can't recommend Wild West Guitars in Riverside, CA enough. Check them out: Wild West Guitars - New Guitars and Amps

Bad pic again

Thanks for the kind words. I didn't say it was a straight swap. However, my PRS was an opaque black Custom 22 (no 10 top, no trem, no options) and it's a few years old. Value-to-value, I'm not complaining about the deal at all. People hold PRS guitars to too high a pedestal. They are well made but over-priced to begin with, and the market is flooded with them. I'm much happier with the guitar I have now.

The guy in the store should have done the decent thing and advised you to sell it privately.

You could have gone back with cash, got a discount and had quite a bit left over to spend on other stuff in the store.

That way, both yourself and the store would have made a decent profit.. instead of just the store.

That's all I'm saying.

It's a lovely guitar, I just think you might have gotten a better deal.

Do you think the PRS was the first guitar I've ever owned? I've bought and sold many guitars over the past 15+ years, and the (sad) fact is that PRS guitars lose a lot of value in the used market. I had that guitar for sale for about a year with no takers. Let's talk numbers now.... I was asking a fair price ($1650) but I wasn't desperate. Most offers came in around the $1450-$1550 range, which makes sense when 10-top CU22's were going for $1500-$1800 on Ebay. The price on the Axis (before negotiations) was $1625. If you think you could have gotten a better deal, more power to you, but don't assume that just because it has "PRS" on the headstock that it holds its value (because it doesn't). The only other guitar I've had that depreciated faster than the PRS was a USA Hamer Artist Custom.... and that was painful.
