Hi there, I'm new to this forum and thought I would introduce myself and then pick your collective brains. My name is Donald and I live in Dundee Scotland. I am 53 and have been playing profesionally and semi profesionally for 40 years. I play in a band, do theatre pit work and recording sessions. I have collected many guitars during my career and still own: Rick Turner Model-1, ES335, SG, Rickenbacker 620, Fender Deluxe American Strat and Telecaster, Clapton Strat, JJ Retro, Parker Fly Deluxe, Firebird VII etc. Now for the question....... I'm thinking of buying a Musicman guitar and have been offered both a Luke and a Silhouette can you advise me which one is the best all-round multi purpose guitar?

Me personnally l'd go the Luke, it pretty much covers alot of bases, and l love the pickups, but l'd recommend trying them both out.

Scott.

Oh and BTW, welcome.

Hay there Don. I am a Glasgow boy living in Dubai now.

Here is what I think. If you like active pick ps go for the Luke. Passive..... go for the silo.

I am an axis/evh player and tend towards the silo.

If you can try them both then your hands and ears will decide for you. Guitar Guitar in Glasgow or Edinburgh may have stock to try.

Cheers,

Jonny

If you like V shaped neck, you might prefer the Luke over the silo... The silo has 24 frets (the silo special has 22) while the luke has 22... something else you might want to consider.

Cheers!

Aha, so the Scottish contigent on here continues to grow!

Welcome Donald, there's a few other Scots on here. :D

I've never tried a Silo, but I can say that my Luke is one of the most comfortable guitars I've ever played. Just feels 'right'.

Great sound and versatility from the EMGs, what sort of sound and feel are you looking for?

Welcome Donald

It seems that all MusicMan players are very fond of their guitars. The MusicMan guitars are made to last and are very versatile. I am a Steve Morse owner so I will say that the Morse is the best ;) but of course the Luke owner will say it is the Luke.
The best you can do is to try them if is possible. Beware, the risk is that you will buy both.

You have a Turner Model One!?!?

You lucky bastid! You lucky, lucky bastid!!

As for Silhouette vs. Luke, you might find the Luke's EMG's add something unique to your stable, but both are fantabulous guitars.

Welcome to the forum. :D

Hi Donald,

Welcome to the forum.as mentioned previously each Music Man guitar has its own following.Personally speaking,Silhouettes are a fave rave of mine-they're Strat killers!! is it a Silo or a Silo Special you've been offered?amongst other differences the former has 24 frets and the latter 22.

Cant speak about the Luke as I havent owned one but if EMGs and V necks are your thing it could be a great all rounder for you.The Luke guitar has a very passionate following on these boards.Look out for Lucious posting here..thats Mr Lukather himself
