Please allow me to introduce myself! My name is Brandon, I'm 44 and started playing bass at the young age of 43 (October 23, 2007, to be exact!) at the request of a guitarist who thought I could figure out how to play.

I fell in love, even though I was only using a borrowed Jackson (really crummy!).
Got proficient enough in less than a week to play with our church praise band (I've read a few threads and discovered there are quite a few here to participate in their church bands, too!).

Well, I made the mistake of wanting to buy a bass I would not outgrow in a year. I went to our local shop (Pop's!) and played a Stingray. Wow. Just.... WOW!

The only one he had was black with gold hardware (not quite my style) so I ordered one in the perfect color: Lava Pearl with a White Ice pick guard.

I picked it up on Monday. What an incredible instrument!

I've gotten better and am having a blast playing, can't wait to get this one on stage.

Our church's guitarist (pretty incredible talent!) now has me playing in his 50's/60's band (logo below!) and it, too, is a blast.

Please enjoy the pics (I was told "No pics, no bass!" :) )

Two of the photos also incorporate another love of mine, collecting mechanical wristwatches... go figure

I personally played this bad ass Stingray within minutes of it being unwrapped!

And I can vouch for the fact that it arrived from the factory set up and ready to go!

Truly a work of art! My hat is off to the EBMM crew again!

Welcome to the forum! You've fallen in with a great crowd!

All the best,

Ritchie

P.S. What?? No Patek Philippe??

Your photography skills are pretty dang good, too.

Welcome BrandonS. You've made one heck of an entrance. I, too, started playing in my 40's. It's been 12 or 13 years now, and believe me it keeps getting better and better.

Now, be aware of these so called "Bongoloids." They'll try to sway you over to their side, but to my eyes, you have one of the most beautiful instruments ever made.

Nice! I love Lava Pearl, I really think its underrated, if it loves the camera that way, I can't imagine how cool it is live. The ice pickguard and the maple board make the perfect match. Congratulations!

Yeah, and you played it slightly better than I am able to! :D

I do know a guy I used to work with who has a nice yellow gold 18K Calatrava in a safety deposit box. I tried, but he ain't selling :)

Thanks, Ralf, in person it is a little more reddish than most of the pics I've seen. Heck, the missus even loves the color! :) I had only seen a Bongo in this color (pics online) but had to have it on the 'ray

Thanks, Kristopher!

I'm using a Canon EOS 350D (European format) on a sturdy Bogen tripod. The Stingray is a bit too big for my portable light tent, so I simply used natural reflected light through a northern window. For the bridge closeup I hand-held a couple of makeshift light diffusers.

Dang! The magnet in that SR pulled your watch right off your arm!

Welcome to the forum! I started playing the bass in my 40's too and after a few years I've achieved the level of "suck"! Good luck with your bass journey.
