Hello everyone!

I´ve been reading this forum a while now and it really seems that this is a great, special place. I´m pretty close to actually order a 6-string Petrucci w/ a piezo, matching headstock and normal inlays. The color is going to be either Medallion Gold or Egyptian Smoke. I just need to find a new job, since I´m graduating from my school this spring.

Little about me:

I´m a 21 year old student from Finland. I´ve played the guitar for little over 10 years now. My main influences are Mike McCready, John Petrucci, SRV, Jerry Cantrell, Dimebag, Tom Morello, Mike Einziger, Adam Jones, David Knudson, Joe Satriani, Larry LaLonde, Stephen Carpenter, Eric Clapton and Eric Johnson. And there are plenty more...

I listen to (and play) various genres of music. I´m currently listening to Ken Stringfellow, Dream Theater, Isis, Mastodon, Liquid Tension Experiment, Minus The Bear, A Perfect Circle, Ghostride... There may be some bands that you´re not too familiar with, please use google or whatever search engine you like and check them out!

My main guitar is a PRS Standard 22 w/ stoptail in standard tuning. I also have a PRS CE24 w/ tremolo (all strings tuned a whole step down). I play through a DeVille 212 (I hear some of you don´t like Fender, what´s the deal?) and I use some effects.

Well, I haven´t been too happy with my PRS Standard lately, I even changed a TonePros bridge to it. There´s just something with the guitar and I´m currently thinking of selling it..

Anyways, I´ve tried out some Music Man guitars and loved the Petrucci and Axis models. I need a versatile guitar to cover all my playing needs and I suppose that´s what the Petrucci is about, right?!

If you're playing Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment tunes, then the Petrucci guitar should serve you well.

As for the Petrucci being versatile, well that depends. There are no single coil pickups, so you won't get a single coil sound from it. If you get it with the piezo option, you will have more tonal possibilities.

It has a three-way toggle for the magnetic pickups. The middle position activates the two inner coils of the humbuckers, not all four coils. I personally like that combination for clean sounds. The pickups are pretty decent.. not as high output as I'm accustomed to, but they still sound great.

You might get more versatility from a Silhouette with HSS or HSH pickup configurations. So, depending upon the spectrum of sounds that you need, you might consider one of those as well.

I own a Petrucci and it works great for what I do. But I play mostly rock, so I don't have great versatility requirements.

I own a Petrucci with piezo, and it really is a fantasic guitar, the Lukes and Petrucci always try to fight for my love hehe, but it's always hard to choose, Ernie Ball make wide range of guitars.

I don't like Fend$%s because l believe they are the complete opposite to Ernie Ball, Ernie Ball/music man products are made with quality and care, something F products don't involve, at least not in a while anyway.

And what is this PRS you speak of?? hehe

... and for the same reason i don't like Gibson. And the company you mentioned earlier I really think PRS is going down in terms of quality (at least the models I played).

Welcome. I like Amorphis, aren't they from Finland?

I played HSS Fender Strats for 20 years. Before that I had a 1970's Gibson Les Paul Standard as my first guitar - back when you could buy a real Les Paul for under $1000. I didn't know anything about guitars - I just liked Jimmy Page. Anyway - regarding Fender - there's too much variation in the quality, finish and setup of Fender guitars - inconsistency.

I'm the world's biggest Dream Theater fan, so I when buying my latest axe, I looked at the EBMM JP model, and some used Ibanez JPM's. I also looked at PRS custom 24s. The PRS is a nice guitar, very pretty, just not my type. The Ibanez - again - the consistency, or lack of it. Some were OK, some played not so OK - same models. Every Music Man guitar I played - Axis, Silo, and JP were a joy to play - well finished, consistent, and extremely high quality.

Every JP I played was so similar that I didn't fear ordering one unseen from an out of state music dealer, which I did to get the model/color I wanted. When I got it it was in tune after a thousand miles of UPS and set up perfectly. These guitars are made for players.

Do I get the endoresement contract yet?

Just kidding. I just wanted to share what a positive experience my JP was and continues to be.

Welcome to the addiction! I am a JP-6 owner (I have 3, one with piezo) and love 'em. As for F**der, well, they are the guitar company that does not have the customer service like EBMM, and I personally don't like their products other than their picks. My opinion of course. I have had bad dealing with them in the past and will NEVER own a guitar by them ever again! Here, you will find a bunch of peeps who are down to earth and willing to help if the need arises. Again, welcome.....

Hello and welcome to the forum. Hey, Fender makes a good amp, anyway. But,
their guitars cannot be compared to EB/MM.

So, you're from Finland. Ever hear of Laika and the Cosmonauts? I think they're from there.

I haven´t tried out the Silhouette yet, but soon I will. I´ve heard only good things about it.

What amps do guys use? Would the EBMMJPM/DeVille combination be a good one?

I really need a high quality guitar that I can REALLY rely on. I just came home from a nearly 8-hour practice. Lots of playing today... I was asked to play in this new band my friend formed a little while ago. My PRS guitars are very reliable and a joy to play... Don´t get me wrong! But I need a bit more versatile guitar, the piezo is a must. I´m seeking for a little different sound too... The JPM seemed to have that sound I´m looking for. It is a really comfortable guitar. That is an important factor, because I´ve had problems with my wrist (picking hand). The wrist is getting better, luckily.

Yes, Amorphis are from Finland! They´re a kick ass band, and I´ve seen live once. Everyone here should check them out.

i have a fender blues junior that i use with my jp6 ... it sounds great. i dont know for sure but i think the deville and blues junior are in the same "family" ... with that assumption, my experience w/ the blues junior might mean that the deville will also sounds sweet (probably way better)

I use a 5150 ii with my Jp6 and Luke, but will be soon upgrading to a Randell.

The next time I visit the store, which sells EBMM, I´ll try out every model they have in stock w/ various different amps.

Too bad they don´t have 5150´s there...
