hi there
i'm new to the forum and i begin asking a question:
I have just sold my Jackson Soloist (couldn't stand floyd rose) and i'm going to buy another guitar.
I'm thinking about going to a Music Man Luke, even if I have never tried one.

Do you think it would be suitable for metal (fast solos like blind guardians or early sentenced)?
How would i find neck compared to the one of jackson soloists?(i've read that it's a shape V)
Is the vintage tremolo as annoying as a floyd rose?

Thank you, :)

Welcome to the addiction! Unfortunately, I cannot answer that question for you. I only have Petrucci model guitars and they are wonderful for the type of music you are looking to play. A Luke owner will have to get to you on this one.

Lukes rock hard!

New Luke owner here....I'm not a listener of the newer bands you've mentioned (my metallic tastes run more in the old-school Megadeth vein), but I wouldn't see why a Luke wouldn't do the job.

Only things I could possibly see being "hindrance"- and they are very, very inconsequential reasons - are :

1) The Luke's EMG 85 at the bridge - most metallers who use EMGs seem to like the brighter 81 model but there are ways of tweaking the 85 to be more strident a la the 81. It actually has more output, mids, and low end, but you could always easily just swap out for an 81 if you didn't wanna bother experimenting.

2) The V-neck on the Luke is slightly more thicker and smaller in feel than most speed demon necks like the flatter/wider Ibanez and Jackson stuff....but as a user of Ibanez gear for over 20 years, I found the EBMM necks to be MUCH more comfortable right out of the box. I don't think the V neck shape on the Luke is that big a deal...I've owned guitars with sharper V's and this one feels much less extreme and very "soft", almost approaching what a good Fender "C" neck from the early-mid 60s feels like.

The Luke trem is very smooth and nice feeling...it's not quite as brash and high-endy sounding as the Floyds, and it doesn't go as slack like they do when you bottom the bar out (still goes out pretty far, though!). It might go out of tune a little more often if the guitar isn't set up correctly, but Luke himself says it doesn't for him (I got mine used with 10s, so I didn't have the benefit of comparing it to an out-of-the-box factory setup with 9s like Luke - but, I've nearly tweaked mine out so it works right). Personally, I'm really tired of dealing with Floyds and like the feel and sound of well set-up vintage-style trems better these days, but that's just my preference...

Finally, look around on this site for some postings and video files from a French user named "Tristan", who peels off some pretty mean metalloid riffs on his Luke - proving all the above are just silly "barriers", and that it's all about mind over matter...in other words, as we say here in the US "your mileage may vary".

You really should try one out in person and see if you like it....I know I do! :)

I'm thinking of selling my Axis and buying a soloist SL1. Aside from the Floyd, what can you tell me about this guitar? I appreciate it.

This is the EBMM foum, not the Jackson forum.....

KILL KILL!!!

Personally, I would sell a soloist if I had it to buy an axis... I've owned 2 soloists... Axis is for me more... But that's me :p
