Hey guys! My band is going into the studio in a while, and I am finally upgrading my bass. I decided I'm going with a sterling, but I am stuck on colors. I was wondering if someone would be willing to help me out by giving some opinions.
I'll still do what I want in the end, but some outside opinions would really help. :)

The Honey Burst I found used for what I think is a good price. The Black Sparkle I found at a great price new.

Well, I like them both VERY much. The honey just looks classy, while black sparkles I have always loved....I had a black sparkly baritone guitar back a couple years ago...

Thanks for the feedback. ;)

Sparkle finishes have been discontinued, so I say get 'em while you can.

Honeyburst is nice, too, but sparkles.......mmmmm.

Bovine, I'm surprised you didn't suggest he just get them both (along with 3 or 4 others!).
(Oh sorry, we're talking Sterlings here, not Bongos :D)
I agree though, go with the discontinued finish. They're both sweet, you can't go wrong.

I have a tendency to like the contrast of a light mm with a dark pickguard, and a dark mm with a light pickguard. It's a tough decision, but I think I will go with the sparkle since it is discontinued, and it's still a new bass! Eventually I'll nab a stingray or sterling in honeyburst.

I would have shut up if there were enough honeyburst supporters, but it seems the scales are tipping towards sparkles and I wanted to throw in my 3 cents.

If you get the sparkle you should also find a van with one of those heart shaped bubble windows on the back and paint it in black sparkle as well. It will way add to your mojo and the matching Love Machine Van / Black Sparkle Sterling will be sure to get you the hookup wherever you go.... oh and put a mattress in the back of the van.

Chicks dig dudes with vans that have mattresses in them.

I'm partial to the honeyburst. It is classic, a little more conservative, and you will not wake up one morning hung over and look over at it and say, "Why oh god WHY!"

To me the sparkles are like a Hooters waitress. Sure it is vibrant and exciting right now. But is this really something you are going to want to spend the rest of your life with? Go wit honeyburst.

Sorry to those of you who are married to a Hooters waitress. I really mean no offense. My wife teaches at a Montessori school so you can rip on that if you like.

I've actually found the Honeyburst to be look more classic than the Vintage Sunburst. In my opinion, the VSB just doesn't work on a StingRay. The HB has got a more "vintage" vibe to it, I feel. Plus, the HB Rosewood Unmatching Headstock is a combo I has been on my GAS list for quite a while now. Go fer the HB!

Honeyburst is my second all time favorite Music Man finish. I have a HHB SR5 now and it looks awsome. Yes, very classic and the wood looks better to me than it does on the other SB finishes....they hide much of the wood grain.

Second favorite?

Wassa first?

I've noticed that these finishes let the grain show through:

Wow, Pete, i've never quite looked at an MM bass, or any other bass for that matter, as a Hooter's girl. My playing has just become that much more enjoyable.
And as a matter of fact , yes, yes I would want to spend the rest of my life with a Hooter's waitress. I'd even volunteer to wash those orange shorts of hers every day. :D

I wear a wrestling mask when I play bass. A little sparkles never hurt anyone. The honeyburst does look very classy and classic. But I'm not either....which is why I am torn. lol

A big ol' A-Team style van WOULD rule, especially if it were black sparkles.

Can't go wrong either way... but I truly recommend which ever one comes with the brownbag silica pack (the whitebag ones just don't have the umph of the brownbag ones)
