Hey guys. Help me out here. I have a JP6, and an ASS, maple, mm90's. This thing is the apple of my eye. Until recently. The tone I'm getting is just too bright for me.

I've really been gassing over a Morse Y2D. Anybody that can say these are better? I want to keep the ASS- which I probably could do- and get the morse. But, its not very likely. Someone either discourage or encourage me. What should I do? Its a great guitar- I just got it like a month ago. And its gorgeous! I just don't know if its- ME. I wish I could have both, but ones got to go for the other. Who else has been in the same boat?

Help me cope.

I had an Axis SS with the MM90s. Too bright for me also. Now my ASS with humbuckers is wonderful.. Maybe you need to go that route. Just a matter of preferance. Some love the brightness of the MM90s.

hmm, tough call.

i had a maple ASS MM90 and didn't get on with the tone of the bridge pup. so i swapped it out for a Dimarzio humbucker P90. the DLX plus. a few other guys on the forum went the same route.

changing the pup made a world of difference and brought another cool tone to the mix when in the middle position. in the bridge position it had a good growl to it. quite an earthy tone but full and rounded. certainly not too bright but retains an articulate tone.

sadly, i sold on the ASS MM90 to replace it with an axis. Now i want another ASS but in HH guise.

Maybe give it a little time... Try not to play it for a few days then pick it up again, see if it'll still bother you in a week or two.
Or you could try to borrow an even brighter guitar for a few days, the ASS will sound a lot better by comparison.

Sometimes it is tough to "bond" with an axe even though you want to. As for the Y2D being "better"....I wouldn't say that as much as I would say different. Really, I am seriously jonesing for an Axis....just haven't decided on what options as of yet....

Give it some time and if you can seek out a Y2D and try it. It is a great guitar and I really like them. But, you might not.

Too bright? Re-EQ your amp. Turn down the treble. You can remove frequencies that are too prevalent, but you can't add 'em later if they're not there.

How bout changing the pickups?

P90s are going to be different from humbuckers for sure. You're not going to get a similar tone compared to your JP. How about adjusting the pickup height? Eq'ing your amp differently? Rolling back the tone on the guitar?

Have you tired playing with your tone and volume knobs. You would be surprised of the different sounds you can get by just messing with the knobs. :)

Hey not every guitar is for everyone, I have owned them all except an Axis, you just have to find what you like best, they all sound great but, some just were not for me, it is all a personal thing.

Like has been suggested, try adjusting the guitar tone and volume and\or amp settings, or Mod the baby, I am not a fan of the bridge MM-90 tone so I am one of the afore mentioned formites who dropped the DLX in and love it.

At worst sell it and buy something else to try, and if thats not it try again, thats what i have done and enjoyed every single purchase and test run to find my niche:D
