Been playing guitar for decades, and got the bug a year or so ago to get some artist models signed by the artist.

Had quite a few artist guitars already in hand, but this has really thrown fire on my GAS :) - and since JP is doing a presentation at SweetWater in 10 days (what? You hadn't heard?! Details here: John Petrucci Performs Live! | Sweetwater.com ) I'm pretty tempted to pick up a Petrucci model to keep my Morse company and to get it signed.

So... What model?

I play 5-string bass, but don't think I'm interested in a 7-string guitar...

Don't have anything with a piezo, so would kinda like that option...

I have one lonely Strat with a whammy bar (actually prefer my hardtail Robert Cray Strat) - so thinking I should go for it while I'm at it...

Finally - color? I'm completely undecided on this part...

So, suggestions appreciated - will likely buy from SweetWater and pick up when I get there, but if I move fast could buy elsewhere if I can have it in hand within a week.

And - hope to see you there!

You can't go wrong with the original jp6. Its still the best in my opinion. All of these later incarnations are fine but the shape, extra deep arm scoop, neck carve, & fretboard radius make it one of the most comfortable guitars to play, period.

Wow, that place is gonna be packed.

I would choose the JP6 over the JPX, I have both, and what DrewH says is spot on. I would definately go loaded, if you're gonna get an EBMM go all the way. Of the current color offerings, I think the white pearl is one of the best (I have one), tangerine pearl, then blue pearl. Looking at GC FW I see they have a beatiful BFR CSB, and a beautiful BFR black burst.

Let us know what you decide!

I absolutely love my JPX. The five way switch and the radius allow for an epic amount of tones! I have owned a regular JP and also have a BFR and think that they are killer guitars but the JPX has so much more to offer!

I'm with Drake! JPX for me too for all the same reasons plus the jumbo frets. I gotta have those for big bends and vibrato!

I believe they all have jumbo frets. That being said, the 5 way on the JPX gives more tonal options. I prefer the JPX to the JP6 too!!!

And the decision is... --> drumroll <-- a BFR 6 in Solar Burst! John Petrucci BFR

Hope it's not out of line to mention I was helped immensely by our very own member Pete Dubaldo with selection and then purchased through Dubaldo/Beller Music (brand new and at a *great* price).

Pics to follow so you know I'm not jivin' :) - and hopefully a pic with JP himself signing it next Monday.

P.S. - and have another EBMM in the queue with Pete, but - shhhh! - details are double-secret at this time. ;)

Nice bro!! Is JP gonna be at Dubaldo on Monday? Ah! Wonder if there's any chance my PDN will be there in time?!

Sorry, but JP will be at Sweetwater in Fort Wayne, IN next Monday. Pete Dubaldo is shipping the guitar to me here in the Illinois cornfields and then I'll be at the seminar for getting it signed then.
